Default PSI for the Beach

Hey guys! I am going to the Outer Banks for a week in August and was hoping that you guys could possibly give me some tips or input as to airing down my tires. It's my first time going to the Outer Banks and I've been told that I will need to drive on the beach to get to the house we are staying at. I have Duratracs (33s) so what PSI should I run? Aslo, since I will be there all week, will it be bad to leave my tires at a low PSI for that long? Any other tips/suggestions for driving on the beach?

Also, Any good trails or spots I should check out while I am down there?

Thanks!

A lot of guys do 8 or 12 PSI. I honestly beach crawl all the time at 26 PSI which is my regular road PSI. I'm pretty much to lazy to air down. But I haven't met a beach that the Jeep cant handle yet.

Airing down is considerate for other drivers because otherwise it causes deep ruts and washboard type bumps on the sand. 15-18 should be fine... Puts less strain on the jeep too

It will handle smoother for sure also. I usually run 6 psi... Shit ive even drive with 6 psi on road for a few miles to get air until recently.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I guess I will play it by ear once I get down there. I'll be sure to take some awesome pictures once I'm on the beach.

I've run a couple of different pressures. at 25 psi it would really dig in and was much harder to drive. 20 psi felt similar really, still dug in a lot.

At 15 psi I really started to feel like I could float above the sand and not dig in a lot, felt so much different from 20 psi. At 12 psi (which is my go-to now), it feels really nice in my opinion, perfect for me (I don't have bead locks so I'd rather not risk it by going any lower)

^^ like he said. Between 12-15 u don't feel all the imperfections in the sand. Almost feels like its floating,as he stated, over the sand.

While there are good "general" beach suggestions......(if I were you), I would go with a local's recommendation or someone who frequents that area.

Our sand here is a little different.....it's like driving on a road. You can drop your pressure and it'll be "easier" on the jeep and smooth out the ride but 12 is too low for here unless you're going to Oregon Inlet.

Staying in the famous ol "outer banks" hey? Where? The "outer banks" refers to pretty much that whole area down there. Check out Oregon Inlet Idiots, that's extreme for the area here. Other than that- the beaches are easy to travel.

I've only lived here for 20 years though.....so take it with a grain of salt.

Just got back from the banks. Down-pressured to 18 for the week. Did fine on the beaches at Corova, Hattaras, Oregon and Ocrakoke. Kept it below 55 up and down Rt-12. Aired back up to 40 before coming home. Got in a very deep sand incline at Corova and I had the Truetracs churn all 4 wheels. Churned for about a minute, made it over, but got a Hot Oil alert.

Anyone else ever get this alert?

I was in HI range.

Maybe I should keep it in LO on the sands.

What range do you prefer in OBX?
