I was just in Ocracoke NC, weather wasn't the best windy on the beach but still awesome none the less, I haven't driven up near Avon or hatter as but looking at the national park website I believe you need a permit for all of OBX

I highly recommend seeking out advice from people who live in the area, not just folks with the ability to google.

I've not bought a permit in years but have stacks of pictures from that area.

I go every year and normally don't take the jeep. this year I wanna so I can go play in the dunes. I never thought of doing it and last year we rented a jeep from the wild horses tours in corolla. we drove around in the dunes and around the beach it was a blast but you ask me way to short of a ride ... I wanna be out all day for the next few days playing in the sand

Be very careful with driving on the dunes down there.....in the right spot it's illegal and they can confiscate your vehicle.

I went to Avon last year. There are little beach paths off the main drag just don't be stupid and you'll be good

You can pay $50 for a weekly pass or $120 for an annual pass south of Corolla and Duck. Much less crowded and worth the money IMO!

We are going from Aug26-Sept 1st. We are staying in Nags head. From what I read on the OB website, you have to have a permit and there are a good bit of rules to follow. I am mainly looking forward to surf fishing.

I think a place called Oregon Inlet would be perfect. A lot of fishing and surfing out there. The surf has been a little weak this year. Where I. Nags head are you staying? The $50 pass would be your best bet IMO. Corolla is way to crowded
To fish. To watch a 15 minute video and they give you a sticker. Just don't leave food on the beach and take everything you brought with you and don't drive drunk and you will be fine. I live in Va Beach and trek down there weekly because it is so much better than crowded local beaches.
