Default Newbee question about 4WD

Got to use 4WD for the first time today. Had about a ten mile drive in 6 inches of snow and ice. My JKU handled it with no problem. My question is the procedure for shifting from 2H to 4H and back. What I did was shift into N while rolling and then into 4H then back into D. I followed the same steps to shift back into 2H. Jeep runs fine in 2H now so I'm pretty sure I did it right. This is my first 4 WD so excuse the entry level question. Thanks.

2hi to 4hi to 2hi can be done while moving in gear as long as a tire is not spinning. I just back off the throttle enough to unload the transmission to make sure all tires are turning the same speed.

4hi to 4low to 4hi is when you have to be stopped in neutral, or rolling very slowly in neutral. The t-case planetary gears are not synchronized.

And remember, 4wd will help you get going, but it will not help you stop, and only marginally helps with directional control.
I see lots of 4wd vehicles off the road and/or flipped over every time it snows or gets icy because the drivers refuse to slow down.

Just to add onto ronjenx post, 2hi to 4hi to 2hi can be done while moving up to the speeds of 55 mph. Above 55 mph you should not shift the transfer case in any way.

Thanks guys. I thought I had it right but always good to double check. Didn't realize you could shift at that speed. That's good to know. Had a blast driving in the snow even if it was to work.
