Manual on a steep grade
#41
I find myself backing down steep hills and off rocks quite a bit due to my manual. Sometimes I need to brake and gas it at the same time when taking off from a stationary position when im in a hairy spot but I dont have enough feet, so I have to roll back down and start over again. Is there some sort of technique that I can use to help me out?? I had a hand throttle on my old Blazer and that made all the difference in the world. I was able to clutch, gas and brake at the same time. Is it even possible to have a hand throttle on a JK?
Dick burnslove the screen name. I use the right foot with the heel on the brake and the toes on the gas. The left foot works the clutch. Sometimes I use the hand brake.
On a side note I will be in Fairbanks the 1st week of august. What is the weather up there. Thanks for any info. in advanceme

I was just reading the Sept. 2008 issue of Four Wheeler and they have an article about that electronic hand throttle others had posted about. It's 3 pages about project 'con artist' and an install they did of this product. Sounds great and would solve the steep hill issue without riding the brake or clutch (OUCH!).

learn to use the clutch as a brake by letting the clutch out till your rpms start to drop let the brake off and the jeep will just sit there it won't roll back then pull at like normal little gas till she starts moving and let clutch out works better in 4 low but will work in 4 or 2 wheel drive
