I had to switch from Geico to Progressive because Geico wont cover an off road vehicle if you drive it off road. Now I'm with State Farm because Progressive lost their minds with the renewal price. Both cover off-roading.

I've been with USAA since 1984 and currently have 12 vehicles, including two motorcycles, insured with them and my motor home with Progressive. They both pretty much cover everything except racing, but when one of my race cars is on a trailer, it is covered as well as the trailer and it's contents. If the uninsured vehicle comes off the trailer in an accident and hits something -- it's not insured, so I buy a new set of Mac's tie downs every year!

Off road mishaps are not a problem as long as it isn't related to an illegal activity or racing related. I am a little unsure how they would cover expensive mods that needed repair or replacing after an accident, however.

In my opinion, they are a good company, but not the great company they used to be. Getting into banking and other financial services seems to have diluted their focus and the service is much less personal than it used to be. But the rates are competitive as I pay less than $300 a month for full coverage on everything, including a couple of serious muscle cars, so I'll stay with USAA unless they piss me off.

Stop the rumor mill! If you really want to know, check with your Agent. Every company and every state defines "collision" differently.
As a State Farm Agent, I do get asked this on the trails often.

a lot of ORV parks states that they are not responsiable for damages, ride/drive at your own risk so u cant take them to court. like at the badlands in Indiana u sign a paper

My Progressive covers up to 1k in aftermarket accessories without paying extra

They said they would also cover a stubby bumper

So it all depends on your local Agent like KEY said

I have USAA. They will cover off road damage to the basic vehicle and any after market mods as long as you can furnish the receipts. Never had a problem. I agree with the comments of meljr, USAA has lost their focus but they have never let me down.

Most will cover it nomatter where. It is a 4wd vehicle, made to go offroad. That is why a 4wd vehicle is more to insure than a non-4wd. But a quick phone call would seal the deal. I just wouldn't give em my policy # before asking!
