this pic I was in the water a good 15-20min up past bottom of doors, I had no puddles but parts of the carpet were wet. Took that long to break the ice.
you can see the water line here

Stock X 32" tires got through these with out a problem. I was up to the bottom of the headlights entering the hole in the first pic. The river in the 2nd pic came up to about the bottom of the lower door hinge in at its deepest point.
This one cost me, I had a 2" lift and 33" tires at this point. I was high centered and a fullsize Ram was unable to budge me either forward or backwards without me putting it in gear. I wasn't able to get it in gear with out the clutch, believe me I tried, as soon as I pressed the pedal in I sucked mud up into the bell housing and ruined the clutch. Ended up winching for over an hour to get to a point where I get towed out of the park. So if you have a manual tranny don't shift while it is in water or it can cause major damage.

Well... someone took a deeper line and got stuck (up to the rear tail light). He was sitting at idle and his exhaust was bubblin away like there was nothing wrong.
Now if he shut the engine off and left it that way for a while i could see that possibly happening. But to stall the engine in deep water and have it fill the entire exhaust system by the time you start it again i have a hard time seeing.

Do you know how an engine works? When the Exhaust valve is opened? There is combustion inside the engine and then the exhaust valve opens to let exhaust gases and PRESSURE OUT not SUCK IN

without a snorkel its recommended that you go slow and steady, there have been to many JK's that have hydrolocked, sucking water into air box, stock air boxes and CAI's
I've personnaly seen water shooting out from between the hood and fender right in front of the hood latch when a JK stopped in deep water, it had to be the fan shooting the water up there. That was VERY close to the intake under the hood which does act like a vacuum sucking in air. I would say its a bad thing to sit in water running if its deep enough. Also one member who hydrolocked was told by the dealer, who had another hydrolocked jk there at same time, that he thinks the air dam on front is affecting the water shooting up inside engine compartment.
Good Luck!!
Snorkel all the way, then dont have to worry

Snorkels are not an absolute fix. They just mean you can go deeper to just below the snorkel inlet...unless there's some filtering mechanism that separates water out...but I would think that idea would be used on a normal location setup as well if it were available.

Have you noticed snorkel intakes are at the TOP of the jeep as in at the roof

I dont believe anyone said snorkels were an absolute fix, and if anyone is dumb enough to not realize that they cant go in water deeper then the inlet/top of snorkel/TOP OF JEEP well then they deserve to hydrolock. Just how exactly would this person driving their jeep breath if they are going in water higher then the snorkel intake

I'm not quite sure that I want to drive across a river just for fun in a JK. Offroad is one thing - underwater is another. Done both before. The JK Electronics are not waterproof - and my ride cost too much to end up on YouTube looking like an idiot.
