Default HELP!!! Potential Hydrolock!

Hey everyone,

The other night I was wheeling my 2008 Automatic JK with some buddies and attempted to go through a watery mud hole that was a little too deep. We ended up getting stuck and my 3 buddies had to climb out and attempt to pull my out with a tow strap. My exhaust was completely underwater, but the water was just up to my fenders. The entire time the were hooking the strap up, I had the jeep in neutral and I stayed on the gas so water wouldn't go up my exhaust pipe. At one point my foot slipped off the gas and the jeep instantly stalled. I tried to turn it back over and it tried to start. I pushed the gas pedal to the floor numerous times and it eventually started up. We got out of the hole a few minutes later. The only light on was my battery light and an indication that said "change oil". I drove home since it was late and everything was fine. Then this morning when I went to start it, it takes a few tires to get started and I have to pump the gas pedal. Does anyone have any advice on to what to do? Change the oil? I've read about pulling the spark plugs and manually cranking the engine so whatever water in the engine will come out, but I'm at college and have minimal tools and knowledge. Is it hard to pull my spark plugs? Can I reinstall them easily? How do I manually turn over the engine? Am I totally screwed? Any advice would be appreciated!

Not hydro lock...wouldn't crank over at all...battery light on due to possible belt slippage and if that was the case the battery would not have charged on your ride home. Especially driving at night with lights on and so forth. I would check charging system and electrical first.....just saying...

More than likely u got water in your engine the same happened to me a few weeks back, easy to pull the plugs and turn the engine over if water comes out you might have a rust problem later in in your cylinder heads and may seize up over time. Change your engine oil, check your front and rear axles to make sure water didn't get into the breathers as well

HACK is right.. not hydrolocked because you was able to start it up and drive it home.. in the trip home, if there was any water inside the engine, it should have burned out.. did you check your breather to see if it was wet or smelled of gas? Is your battery light on now? Could be water inside the throttle body.. if you werent deeper than your manifolds on your jeep the water shouldn't have been able to get back inside your engine when it stalled.

The battery light is off now. How do I go about pulling the plugs and manually turning over the engine? The main problem is when it starts it doesn't sound good at all and takes a few tries to start. I appreciate all the help!

Did you change you're oil as the jeep is asking ?
Inspect under the jeep while you do so making sure it clean
If you stalled as soon as you returned to the normal idle and the only way to the engine was by the tail pipe inspect the your muffler probably full of mud restraining your air flow.

My tail pipe got submerged couple of time and some time for over 30 minutes never got big problems out of it except some time the muffler sounds change a little

Chech the air filter and ALL THE INTAKE.! My guess is when all the steam settled in the intake it's pulling a little water in when you try to start it. Just take it all off and dry it out really good. Add a new filter and try it.
