Worth reading if you're considering a winch... and you might be a little surprised at the results!

That was an interesting article. But like the author said, the Warn only got an occasional look to see when it was done. I have the 9.5ti, and that peace of mind is well worth it to me. I have pulled a Chevy 2500 out of a lake with water in the bed, and it never complained. I pulled a telephone company bucket van out of a field when it was buried to the axles, not even a grunt. They just perform. I bought it a as a customer return from a liquidation site, and when I got it in, it was broken. I called an authorized repair center in San Antonio, ordered the replacement parts since I had bought it as salvage, and went to repairing it. Total parts cost was about $100, and they worked tirelessly with me over the phone to get it working. After finally getting it back together and working perfectly, turns out the switch in the remote was bad. They sent me out another remote under warranty, and told me if I had any trouble, I could send it to them and have it fixed under warranty now that I had fixed the initial damage. Warn and their repair centers are the best!!! Save your money and buy the Warn.

Looks like they are around 900 or so, I didn't realize they had gone up that much, I think I paid 650, but that was in the early 90's

I have a Smittybilt on my Jeep, my dad's Jeep has a Warn, and my wife's Jeep has a Warn.

Mine cost $650 ish, my wife's is a $2k winch, and my dad's was in the neighborhood of $1,000.

I've used them all back to back to pull us up obstacles we couldn't get over. I definitely see why Warn is better, the things are really nice and do everything well.

However, my Smittybilt has never failed a pull, has worked every single time I've needed it and has accomplished every task set before it.

So while the Warn is definitely better, I don't see how it's $1300 better and I don't think I would ever bother spending the money on a Warn unless I needed a winch for work and it was going to earn me some money back lol
