Can count how many times I've saved other wheelers on the trail who ran out of juice. Would love to upgrade to dual batteries!

what's your story...

i lobe I've being able to help folks out when their either stuck and I use my winch, or if it's someone in a parking lot with a dead battery

I've always wanted a dual battery setup to be sure I have enough power!

I got nothing! But definitely planning on getting a dual battery set up some time down the line. Just picked up a SwitchPro and 10 (yes ten!) spots and floods for around the jeep. Gonna get lit up like a Christmas Tree!

How did I learn not to leave yourself vulnerable to be left high and dry? Let me paint you a picture back to Dec. 24, 2009.

It's an overcast, snowy Christmas Eve in West Virginia and 3 of us with two rigs decide we should make a short ice run into a local trail with numerous creek crossings around 12pm. It's been every bit of 10 degree's the past week so the creek that cuts back and forth into our trail is good and frozen solid.
Shortly before leaving I visit my best friend and ask him to tag along in his new RZR side by side. He is hesitant, he's never been the best decision maker, and he's got a dinner with the in laws of his new fiance around 7pm. After some persistent nagging by me and the others, he agrees, but decides he will leave early. In my head, I'm thinking this is great, I can leave early with him as well and get home to Christmas activities as well. We set forth.
It's now about 4pm and we've made decent head way into the trail despite the trucks breaking thru the ice and getting stuck, we decide we should take off for home so we can get ready with time to spare. We say our goodbyes and head back out of the trail - alone. Here's where the problem lies. Those nice frozen creek crossings that once let our RZR effortlessly cross with an occasional donut are now broken and look more like a dish of chips, broken and jagged facing into the sky. We think nothing of it and cross on thru.

"Hey, look out at the back rear tire, does it look low?" says the my friend. I cautiously lean out as to not hit a passing branch and turn my head past my shoulder to see a tire unseating itself from its rim. Not just any rims or tires, these are brand new, 1 week old, tires and rims my friends fiance bought him for Christmas. "No biggie he says, we will fix it when we get to the trail head after the next crossing."

10 feet later, we have two rear flats and 1 front flat as the sharp ice has now completely destroyed 3/4 valve stems. We just so happen to be in a knee deep water crossing trying to claw our way back out with 3 out of 4 rims slipping inside their tire. "Shit" says my navigator, knowing that he has to get us out of the hole or miss dinner with his fiances family.

It's ok tho, we have a winch and a tree in front of us to latch on to! After a short amount of digging and a look of disgust my firend realizes that the winch controller is at home, as he never had a plan to go riding until we left on a whim. So, here we are at 6:30 pm, standing in knee deep water taking turns pushing the RZR while one person floors the throttle and spins the wheel left and right praying that we will make it out in time for his dinner date that started at 6pm. We are stuck and eventually hike to a farm about 1/2 mile up the road and borrow a 80lb hand crank wire winch. Hike 1/2 mile back and crank for another 40 mins and we are free. We ride the gravel ridden road back to my friends house where it is now 10pm.

My cellphone gets service and I recieve several voicemails from his fiance with a shaky voice asking me if I know where her fiance is. Inside their house is a lovely note, an engagement ring, and an empty spot on the tv stand where his XBOX once sat. My friend doesn't shower, changes and takes off for dinnner, where he is met out side by his future MIL asking him WTH he was before he's allowed into dinner. She was the sweetest lady and this was completely out of her character for her. Some sweet talking and explaining he is brought into dinner, at 11:30pm!

Five years later, they are happily married with one kid that I find myself babysitting from time to time. Never leave yourself with the chance to be left high and dry!

When I had my LJ as a second vehicle, it got made at me for not driving it enough and the battery would not turn the engine over.
