WTF headlights quit
On occasion (not always) the headlights will just die. sometimes they will blink, then go out.
Pulled the following codes.
B162F - Right low beam control circuit low
B162B - Left low beam control circuit low
I understand, by looking at other post that the lights are controlled by the PCM ( computer ), Has anyone bypassed the PCM with a home-brew kit? I think that danielsternlighting has a kit to upgrade the wiring and bypass the PCM, but I need to get this fixed by tomorrow. Why Jeep did this is baffling, ( On a JEEP......WTF ) and how is it legal to manufacture a vehicle where the lights can just die.....anyone???????
Anyone using the danielsternlighting kit?
Will using any of the H13 to H4 conversion / pig-tail kits fix this issue?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

My driver's side low beam just went out. I volt metered it at 4volts, supposed to be 13v, Very weird. The high beams work but the low beams just quit. Anybody have this issue before?

You are pretty close with your understanding of the headlights. The TIPM controls the lights, using a signal from the headlamp switch. The TIPM also monitors current, and resistance to the bulb and will notify you if it senses any problems. I would reccomend that you check the system for shorts, and also inspect the bulbs themselves. I dont believe a conversion will help your issues.

Big reason I did the total stern convert to CiBies and harness. A: Harness allows total unadulterated power to be available to the bulbs .. the way bulbs are designed to use. B: the harness is really just a simple set of relays and Plug-Betweens that just use the signal from the Totally Integrated Power Module .. just a signal to collapse the relay(s) to provide full battery power. if signal is lost from the TIPM say out on the trail you can bypass the headlight switch with a simple jumper and knowledge of electrical systems.

I'm having the same issue. Where exactly does the wiring connect to ground for the headlights? It's a pain to try to trace the wires when they are all covered with the black corrugated plastic.
Also, any opinion on whether upgrading to a harness/relay wiring system would solve the issue? If the PCM is reading low voltage and high resistance, would it still send enough power to the relay for the lights to turn on?
Thanks
***UPDATE***
I narrowed the ground down to three points and wire-brushed each. Also, I popped out the big fusebox and reseated every wiring harness going into it. The lights are now on and no codes!

** Update pt 2 **
This morning the headlights flashed once then went out. I tried it again on my lunch hour and the same thing happened. After driving home from work, they light up properly.
What an odd issue. Intermittancy makes this really difficult to troubleshoot.
