What would be a good set up? Just want the 4 6.5" speakers, new tweeters and a small amp.

I stuffed my soundbar with Poly Fill and swapped the speakers out for the Kicker replacements and the difference is incredible! All came at a pretty cheap price too.

you're gonna want an amp (assuming you don't already have one).

the STOCK head units (all of them) are CRAP - they roll-off on the mid & bass as the volume increases, so even if you try to drive an amp w/ the factory head unit you'll still be missing a lot

if you're willing to do the work yourself & buy on line you can save a lot of $....
the most expensive part of my system is the amp & wiring.

my sub woofer didn't even cost $90 and the sound bar & dash speakers $80 per pair....

I selected an Alpine PDX-v9 because of its size. It puts out a VERY CLEAN 100x4 & 500x1 watts (rms) - at 80 mph with my top down, I've got NO PROBLEM hearing the music !

I mounted my amp under the drivers seat & spaced off the floor over an inch, to keep it dry....If you've got an unlimited your mounting choices are a bit better than in my 2door.

x2. I did the same and it made a big difference. I will admit though that I am now exploring the options to further improve my system.

How difficult was it to mount your tweeters in The factory spot?

I'm pretty sure it's relatively simple. That round cover pops off and then it should just be a couple screws holding it in..

. There is no round cover. Nor is there screws. The tweeter mostly snaps into the housing molded onto the dash. Just pry them out. Then the new tweeters will have new hardware to attach the flush mounting parts into an appropriate sized hole. That will be the iffy part. Some tweeters might fit with out mods. Some will fall into the hole. Some will not fit without making the hole larger. My tweeters from Focal were really large and required some significant massaging of the factory hole.

Again. I'm sure it's do-able. Just not as simple as swapping one for the other.

they just pop out....i put a larger tweeter in so i had to dremil the plastic a little.
on the rear sound bar there are no tweeters, so i just used a hole saw.

My MB Quarts have a separate cross over - so the cross over is hidden behind the dash or in the sound bar.

I just finished replacing all my speakers in a setup close to what you are looking for. Although I replaced the head unit with a double DIN to help keep the wiring simple (I learned that the hard way.)

My current setup is:

Polk DB6501 components for the dash and tweeters
Polk DB651 in the sound bar
Clarion XC1410 4-Channel Amp
Pioneer AVIC-5000NEX head unit

As it was said previously, the tweeters can be tricky. The tweeter housing needed to trimmed to fit the Polks I installed. Aside from that, installing the speakers is pretty straightforward if you plan on keeping the stock head unit, as well as getting whatever those adapters are to connect the aftermarket speakers to the stock wiring. I think Crutchfield includes them if you buy from them. I'm not 100% sure on the adaptors though, as I chose to run new wiring instead of using the factory.

if you would like more details feel free to ask, and I can get some pictures of my setup if that would help.
