Like a lot of people on here including me have a 4 channel amp, 2 run to front speakers, second 2 bridged to sub. HU powers the rears. That or a five channel will work.

Lots of threads on all kinds of jk audio, read up. It really comes down to how much you wanna get into it, and what you wanna spend. personally I would start with a new head unit, then piece together from there.

Alternatively, if you want to keep the stock head unit, you can use a line out converter. A good one is cheaper than a new head unit. The downsides are that you'll have to figure out where to install it and you'll have to run some additional wiring.

True, but alot of people dont realize that with an loc, it's not a very clean signal, and it's easy to send a clipped signal to your amp which essentially now is amplifying distortion. I've seen so many with high end gear who do this and then think that their amp is junk when in reality it's because the set up wasn't very good. In audio, your system is only as good as your weakest link. That may be ok for some people though.

A aftermarket head unit is superior to most factory options. Plus it offers more flexibility and control. Usually has superior dac's to decode digital music (ipods, cd's, dvd's etc.) And higher voltage dedicated preamp out puts to feed the amp pristine audio signals. plus most factory head units cut high and low frequencies as the volume increases to compensate for defficiencies in the speakers ability to handle them which will still happen with a loc feeding your amp. If you want to get what you paid for in amps and speakers, a new headunit is essential. There are alot of lower priced units that still blow away factory offerings.

Agreed. A $20 loc won't do much for you. You definitely have to spend the money on a quality component and it does add complexity to the system. An aftermarket head unit is an easier install.
