uconnect microphone installed!

uconnect microphone installed!
We bought our 08 JK Sahara in March and as soon as we got it home we realized the uconnect did not work. Turns out for whatever reason there is no microphone. So I did some searching and found out that all you need to buy is a microphone to get the uconnect to work.
So I purchased the microphone, and had it installed in about 30 mins. I couldn't believe how easy it was.
In order for the radio to recognize your voice you will need to go into the diagnostic menu to activate the voice recognition. Do this by pressing the menu and both seek keys at the same time. Scroll down to page 5 and the last option is for the voice recognition.
After the voice recognition is enabled its just a matter of pulling the radio out and plugging the mic into the back of the radio. Once its plugged in, just put everything back together and your good to go. I decided to mount the mike just to the left of the radio on the dash.
Best part is there was no need to go to the dealer for any kind of system update or activation. Once everything was put back together, I was able to pair my phone to the uconnect and make calls. It was that easy! Btw I have the RER radio with nav. Let me know if you have any questions.

Welcome to 3 years ago. J/K Welcome to the forum and having Uconnect enabled on the MyGig makes life much nicer. Many threads on how to install the mic yourself, plug and play and very simple and well worth $30 or so and 30 mins if you have an RER and don't already have Uconnect enabled. Depending on Mic placement it also works pretty darn well with the top off or down.

Directions:
1. You need to "enable" the bluetooth on your MyGig. Press the Menu, Seek Up, and Seek Down buttons at the same time while the unit is powered on. You will see this message:

2. Scroll down to where you see "Enable JK VR/HFM"

3. Once you are done, click the arrow in the top left and you will now notice that when you press the UConnect button you actually get a voice prompt and the "UConnect Not Available" no longer appears.
4. You need to install a mic. Please note the parts above are what I used, and it made the project nice and easy.
5. Here is a pic of where I mounted my mic.

6. Close up of mic.

7. You need to remove the MyGig so that you can access the back of the unit. The harness plugs right in the back middle-bottom section. I went to YouTube and watched this Lockpick video that shows how to remove the MyGig. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmc9j_z4kLg
*Please note that I did not use a screw driver like the guy in the video. For the most part I used just my hands so I didn't mess up the plastics.
8. Here is how I ran the wiring from the mic to the MyGig.

That was about it. I was a little concerned about the mic placement but everyone I've talked to has said I sound crystal clear, even with the hardtop on going 70 MPH on the freeway.
Hopefully this will help someone in the future who is looking to enable their UConnect bluetooth option.
