TiPM/Wiring Harness Nightmare

TiPM/Wiring Harness Nightmare
Hi all,
I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler X. I have been stuck in Limp mode for two months now.
It all started when I got a hard shift one morning from 1st to 2nd. It did that maybe three times in the span of a month. Per my mechanic's suggestion I put some trans fluid boost in, which seemed to help until it started throwing a traction control light after about 30 seconds every time I started driving.
Now it has put itself in Limp mode completely. It won't come out of it. I have been getting the code P0082 (TCM power input low) which suggested the PCM, initially. After not knowing for sure if it was electrical or something else I decided to take it to the dealership (I hate the dealership, especially the ones in So Cal). They told me that it is throwing the P0082 code and that I have a faulty TiPM, and a short in my wiring harness. They let me know that they don't repair harnesses but could replace it and get the job done completely for $3500.. HA. As if I have that much to spend, only so they can find more things to tac on in the process.
My mechanic took it back with their diagnostics and told me he couldn't find a short anywhere in the harness but could get me a replacement harness which will include a fuse-box(TiPM) for about $500.00. Does that seem right? That the two would come together? And does this seem like the right path to take? My suscipicious nature wants me to believe that the harness is fine, and that the dealership just wanted to make some extra cash for an annoying job. Is there anything I could check myself at this point? I feel like people aren't looking at it as thoroughly as I would if I just knew where to start. Could I switch any fuses to see if they're the culprit? Or possibly checks the pins/connectors plugging into the TiPM? Any response will be greatly appreciated as this is starting to feel like a never-ending electric nightmare. Thanks a lot everybody.

I get that you're frustrated with the thought of replacing the TIPM and the harness. There are a few companies that rebuild your TIPM if that's an option for you to be without the vehicle for a little while. As far as the pricing of $500 for the harness and TIPM, that sounds doubtful. I paid $180 for a used harness that just controls the headlights. There are either 7 or 8 harnesses that control every function of the Jeep. I'd dig deeper into the code if I were you and see what other causes there could be.

I had a no start on my 2011 jk that turned out to be the connector going into the tipm was badly corroded. Instead of replacing the whole harness my local 4x4 shop just replaced the connector. I think you can get them for about $15 to $30. Might be worth pulling them all off and having a look.

I keep running into a no start condition on my 2014 jk. I've been through 3 tipms so I'm tearing into the connectors next. Which connector was corroded causing your no start condition?

TiPM/Wiring Harness Nightmare
Hi Cingham3
I bought a reconditioned TIPM from Mak at www.tipmrebuilders.com and it was a good buy, and I put it in by myself. No stealership. Yay. I now have two TIPM's in going order, that I can interchange to elucidate where a problem is.

TIPM prob solved
I know this is an older post but a full month later, turns out a wire harness locking clip was causing all my HOT OIL, ESC, ABS and other lights to come on plus chiming like a blasted Christmas card and also kill my Jeep. My narrowing down of the symptoms:
the relays would click continuously
NO codes were thrown.
Knew it had to be electrical, good battery so next step was TIPM. No other 'normal' TIPM issues like wipers, windows, horn so I just decided to pull the unit and have a look. When I lifted it out, a harness fell off. The lever clip was broken on this one harness and couldn't lock that harness in place. Several bumpy roads jostled it loose I guess. Replaced lever clip and no issues in 3 months. Whew 😑
