Default Which Superchips unit?

Hey all: Recent purchase, a 2008 Wrangler X, 6 speed. It has non-stock tires/wheels and has been re-geared. The speedo is WILDLY inaccurate, reads higher than actual.

What handheld device should I buy to recalibrate for changes?

It appears to me the Superchips Flashcal F5 will readjust for the tires and gears. BUT, the Flashpaq F5 will do that and more, adjusting the tune, etc.

Is the Flashpaq worth the extra money?

Is there a better option out there I haven't seen?

Thank you, signed,

Everyone will have their own opinion on it but I liked the Superchips for taking the lag out of the pedal with a tune. The actual tune doesn't seem to change much for me, but it does take out that half second delay.

For speedo changes, Jscan and a Bluetooth dongle all day long. It's quick, it's cheap, it'll handle TPMS- it works. For me, it didn't handle the lag so I use both Jscan and Superchips.

That's my opinion based on 200k+ miles with the old 3.8. The newer jeeps might not have quite the delay in the pedal that the early ones did and we all know the 3.8 needs all of the help it can get to get moving.

I don't know if they still offer it, but for a long while Superchips was having sales with very cheap upgrades to move FlashCal (programmer) owners to FlashPaq (tuner) functionality. I bought a flashCal with this in mind, then upgraded it to a tuner during the next sale. Don't recall how big the saving was, but it was a decent chunk of the price difference between the two...

One thing to note is that you should not expect miracles out of the performance tunes. A few HP/Tq at normal driving speeds, not enough to feel in the seat of the pants.

I tried various tunes with my BullyDog, which btw I'd never suggest, and I just couldn't tell any difference at all except for having to use premium fuel for the tunes. The only thing I did see was a little pedal response difference in the trail tune, but it has just never been worthwhile to roll to a trail and fiddle with the tuner just to change that as it requires the whole key on/key off hokey pokey. My general opinion is programmers are worth it but "tuners" are not. That said, I've never had a 3.8L, and if Karl reports the pedal difference is worthwhile, and a tuner is required to get that difference, then I'd trust that advice.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your inputs on this. I'll probably get the flashpaq, and I'll let you know what I think.
