Local shop claims to put 8" under front passenger and drivers seat. And still have full function of the seat, 4door jeep it was. Has anyone seen this done, if so let me know your thoughts. I'm really thinking about doing it.
Also, any other out of place spot to put amps? Besides under rear seat.
Thanks

Well I am in the process of making a custom box for under that back seat that also houses and cools the amp. I have the box built. I should be installing it sometime soon and I will let you know how it works out.

While the subs under the front seats might be nice, I'm not sure I would really like eliminating that space in exchange for the eliminating under the back seat.

The box I made looks similar to one posted above for under the back seat but will also house the amp. This way it will draw less attention and be bolted down to prevent anyone from taking it with the top or doors off....

Definitely post some pics of this when you install it. I really like how this sounds, especially since it will be bolted down and relatively out of sight. What subs are you going to be installing in it and how are you cooling the amp?

Here are a few quick photos I took towards the final stages.

I went with 2 alpine type r 8s and the pdx-6 due to its cooler running temp and their smaller cubic ft needs. The box is 3/4 mdf on top, sides, and front. It is glassed in the back to fit snug against the jeep.

I also incorporated 2 50mm low dbl computer fans to cool the amp. The rear seats contour worked great for the amp. The amp does not touch the seat anywhere and will have the fans cooling it with one blowing in and one out. The fans will kick on with the remote wire when he amp turns on... But the hope is that it will run cool due to it being a digital amp.

I should hopefully install it soon and see how it all comes together. My plans are to make a few more with my extra materials.

I did not carpet under the amp on purpose. That area will not be seen as it will be under the seat.

Thoughts?

Wow great job! My only concern might be the amp, I was always taught that mounting them upside down was a no no. The heat can't dissipate very well but that might not be a issue with the class D amps as they run cooler than Ab amps

The amp will not be upside down, rather sit right side up between the 2 subs and just under the center back seat.

It will basically be right above the hump.

I built this with wanting it off the floor and out of the way. The encloser is just over 1 cu. ft. ...

No space taken up..
