Default Sub/ Amp opinions

i am looking to add a new sub and amp to my jeep. I dont want to go crazy, just get better sound than the stock equipment. the sub will be discrete for the most part and the amp will be mounted in place of the stock amp. I am torn between which set up to go with. so far I have looked at:

JL audio 8" w3v3 (would be mounted in the stock enclosure)
JL audio JX250/1

or

Rockford Fosgate R2D4-10 (would be in a small custom sealed enclosure)
Rockford Fosgate prime 250/1

anyone using any of this stuff or have any opinions? I would say that JL is better equipment but i can get more power out of the rockford sub since it is DVC and i can wire it to 2ohms.

I went with the Kicker CVR82 Sub and paired it with the Kicker IX5001 Amp. I also wired it to 2 ohms. I mounted it on top of the stock amp under the steering wheel using washers as spacers.. I will be replacing the rest of the speakers and the stock amp in the next few weeks. The difference in the sound with the new set up is night and day. Best thing I've done yet to my JK.

i went fosgate all over... did the 300x1 (PBR300X1) under the steering wheel (it is a little bigger and heavier than an iphone) and replaced the factory sub with the Rockford Fosgate P2D2-8. Small modification to make the sub fit since this is deeper but well worth it. Huge difference - also swapped out front and rears for fosgates as well.

Great stuff, both the sub and the tweeters and amps

Of the choices you have posted in the OP I would definitely choose JL, hands down!

i am looking at the overall cost to effectiveness as well.
looking at about $270 for the JL setup and about $160 for the rockford setup.

What are your opinions on the factory enclosure. im not sure how i feel about having a nice sub in that enclosure.

I have always preferred the sound of JL over Rockford and have used both. As far as the factory enclosure, you will probably need to make a spacer ring out of mdf to allow the mounting depth of the sub, and stuff it with polyfill. Should sound pretty good

JL from what you listed.
I'm running a 5ch MTX Jackhammer that is more than what I need including a 12" Kenwood sub.

The advantage of the rockford is it is more price friendly if you are buying of ebay or sonic and the amp is ridiculously small for a 300x1. i added the factory enclosure because one under the seat was not an option and the enclosure actually stays out of the way pretty nicely. as far as a high end sub in the factory enclosure, i agree - it needs modifying. i dynamatted and polyfilled the stock piece and sounds great to me.

So i have decided to go with the rockford fosgate P2D4-8". From everything i have read, it sounds like a good replacement and i found it for $75. I will power it with the RF prime series 250-1. wiring to 2ohms, i will get enough power to run it fine. I will also dynamat the factory enclosure and polyfill it.

Im now looking at the dash/ roll bar speakers. looking to go with kicker DS series 6 1/2". they seem to be a good budget replacement.

here is what i have found them for: (im an ebay junkie)
sub-$75
amp- $98
speakers- $88 for both pair
