It's NOT the speakers or the head unit. Atleast for mine it wasn't. Just got my unlimited a few weeks ago and it's been in the shop 2 times, first to replace the speakers and then the head unit. the popping sound isn't as bad, but the crackling sound is still there. I'm really tired of taking it back and they don't know what the problem is... they just tell me not to play burned cd's because it's not that bad with the radio...

Well mine is in the service department right now. I informed them of everything I have read online, so hopefully they can get it figured out. I will let you know what I find out.

UPDATE: Looks like the dealer has decided to replace the dash and bar speakers. I had already informed them that this has been tried before by other owners, but they still want to try that. Hey can't really knock them since it ain't my money to fix it. I will post when I find out more.

Maybe they're hoping to start with that, so while they've got everything taken apart, they can look for something else that's gone wrong???

Hey everyone, I experienced the same problem with mine the first day I got it, but only happend as soon as I adjusted the equalizer, especially with adding more bass, more than 3...............I tried 4 and 5 and seem to work fine, but once you add more there is higher chance of the crackling and popping, just my observation since it did this problem even in satellite radio, and does it with some songs that are on hdd.......................mygig software doesnt like strong beats or most hip-hop lol
Just my observation.............but more than likely a software issue, im curious if upgrading the speakers to higher watt handling would cure this but im fine with mine

I agree it does seem to be something with the processing of the signal. Either that or an amp problem. I plan on taking it back in to see what they will do next. But please keep the information coming.

Perhaps there is a short in your wiring somewhere. Make sure they make it right.

Default don't settle

there is no short. the problem is the jk system.. i have been reading the same complaints for 1 1/2 months now.. i don't understand how some of you guys just say your going to live with it and buy new speakers or "turn the bass to the right levels"; that is ridiculous. i don't know about you guys but my mygig was around $1250. if i can't play cds or use the hard drive without popping i am not satisfied. PLEASE quit relying on forums to fix this. CALL DC TODAY AND REPORT THE PROBLEM SO WE CAN GET THIS PIECE OF SHI* MY GIG OR REG. SYSTEM FIXED.
MOST OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE NOT THE SPEAKERS. MY O8' PLAYS SAT, FM, AM, BURNED CDS PERFECT. ONCE I PUT IN A STORE BOUGHT CD WITH PROTECTION ON IT OR RIP TO THE HDD THEN I HAVE PROBLEMS. CHRYSLER IS F'DD UP FOR NOT RECOGNIZING THIS BIG PROBLEM..........PLEASE CALL!!

This is not a big problem. And it is not a JK issue to any degree. This is your problem that Chrysler needs to take care of for you. I agree that you shouldn't have to adjust the system to have it operate without cracking. Unless, of course, you are playing the system obnoxiously loud. I've got the MyGig radio and have had none of the problems you are describing in any mode and my wife claims I play the radio too loud. And the few people on this forum who have expressed an issue are certainly in the vast minority of JK owners. People with this problem just need to stay after the dealer and Chrysler and make them repair or replace their system. Good luck.
