I just replaced the speakers in the sound bar too with the Polk DB651s and I have coming the DB6051s for the fronts. I am running the stock head unit also with the Infinity system. Look on Amazon for the Db6051s and Db651s, I got the 6051s for $114 shipped.

Do you have to use the aftermarket grills or can you use the factory grill?

I first had the stock ones on while the paint was drying. They push on the tweeter a little you but you could cut some of the plastic ribs on the inside of the stock grill, it may help. You also have to mod the plastic brackets that come with the dv651s. You just have to drill a hole on one of the tabs to get it to line up.

Default Speaker upgrade

I have a 2011 JK in which I did a total stereo upgrade. I just had the stock system with no sub. I was just going to go with speakers as well but after a lot of research found that the stock HU just does not have enough power to drive any quality speakers. So basically, sticking with the stock HU will work but you will be under-powering your speakers so you will not get your monies worth on the speaker upgrade. I ended up adding all new speakers and a sub.

If interested in my setup, just PM me and I can give you more details.

So anyway.. new plan is as follows.

REN 09 MyGIG w/ Lockpick
- JL Audio mid's/tweeters.
- 12" JL Audio sub in tailgate.
- 5 channel JL Audio amp mounted in dash.

Would love to see pics of the JL 5 channel amp under the dash. I have one and was thinking of mounting it on the tail gate.

Factory grills worked just fine. That's why you needed the adapter for the 651s so that it all fits and stay factory looking.

Great thread here, exactly what I was looking for. I have a '12 JKU with the basic sounds system and want to keep the head unit, but upgrade the speakers. I assume the HU won't fully power new speakers, but just a slight upgrade in sound has to be worth it. All those mentioned got good reviews on Crutchfield and the install sounds easy. I am concerned about the dash tweeters though. Any feedback on install there? How's bass for those without a sub (or is best to go sub?). Thanks.

I just upgraded all speakers today. Went with 6 1/2 Memphis audio in sound bar as well as the dash. Also pick up some alpine tweeters. I love the sound... I'm going to add a 10" infinity bass link under the back seat next week.
