Running 46" Flat Panels and Satellite
What do you think... I have a clean sine wave 300 watt inverter running off a pair of yellow top batteries, powering a 46" Westinghouse Flat Panel TV and a Winegard Satellite System with DishNetwork. The power up sequence is a little like Apollo 13 but once running its good for a couple of hours before running the motor... Any thoughts on squeezing extra juice out of this would be appreciated! BTW this is all for tailgating the BCS game this year in New Orleans...

Roger that. I just know my luck would be a an A-hole from the opposing team work park close to me so I could not see it on the side.

I upgraded my original install from 14 gauge to 10 gauge wire and shortened the route from the battery to the inverter. That significantly reduced resistance and increased operating performance for the inverter.
I'm also not that impressed with the dual yellow tops that I'm running so I may replace with deep cycle marine batteries in parallel. A dedicated yellow top seems to pass out after 1.5 hours

with a claimed 180amp idle output I figured it would be overkill but worth it.
That is a very nice setup.

I run the same setup but with a 26" TV. The 46" screen probably sucks twice as much power. You know it runs on less than 300 watts which is under 30 amps. At 30 amps it should suck the batteries down in around 2 hours - which is what you are getting. Deep cycle (marine) batteries will take the abuse better, but won't give you any more power.
The solution is simple: Go buy an 8D battery and set it in the back of the Jeep. Get a decent 3-stage battery charger and charge the 8D at home. An Interstate USR8D will give you 455 minutes at 25 amps. That's more than 7 hours!!
The USR8D is 21" x 11" x 10" and weighs 127 pounds. If you can get along on 250 minutes, use an Interstate USRM16TF - "only" 92 pounds. An Interstate UBIGJOE will provide 185 minutes and weighs 80 pounds.
Forget under-the-hood batteries. For this purpose they are junk.
BTW, the brighter you run the TV the more power it uses.
