Question Rigid industries dually D2 vs RI SR-Q2

I have been a long time reader here and finally decided to join, so to everyone, hello.

Now with that said, i have tried searching the forum and havent found anything on these yet, so if i overlooked it, please forgive me and feel free to point me in the right dirrection.

I am looking at adding flood/diffused lights to the sides of my roof rack for area lighting when setting up camp and general task work. I have used my googlefu, yahoofu, bingfu, and every other kind of foo i can think of to find some good night beamshots of the Rigid industries SR-Q2 lights but i havent been able to find much. Are their not many people using them yet? I was thinking of using the SR-Q2 because RI claims that they are the same light as the Dually D2 only in a different, horizontal design. I figured that by using a light like the Q2 that it would help reduce the road noise.

Any thoughts on these lights?
Also, who here has used the Rigid Industries diffused lights on a roof rack as area lighting and how did you like it. I spent about 2 weeks trying to figure out which beam pattern would work better for my purpose, (either flood or diffused). I finally figured that i would give the diffused a shot with it sitting up on the roof rack and oriented down a bit.

Any thoughts or opinions on which light would be better, or which beam pattern would be better for my intended purpose?

ETA I already have a set of RI dually D2 driving beams on Pillar mounts. I will be moving these to the rear of the roof rack as back up/area lights as soon as my 50" E series arrives. Ships tomorrow!!!

Thanks for everyones help!

I'm going to give you a completely different, lower cost option to consider.

If the use for the lighting is truly limited to setting up camp or work area lighting when the vehicle is not moving, you can get an LED light with a magnetic base that plugs into the accessory/cigarette outlet (a link is below, but I have found them at even less cost than $79). You don't say what year/model JK you have, but if it has the outlet near the subwoofer in the rear gate, I've found this a convenient and sufficient way to go (or just use an outlet on the dash).
The one I have is 18 watts and looks much like the one in the link. That single light, set on top of the JK, is sufficient to illuminate a wide area of camp. In my case, I carry a square 1/4" thick steel plate (4"x4") that I set on the roof (since it isn't made of metal) and attach the light and put it at whatever angle I need. In your case, you say you have a roof rack, so it should stick to that just fine.

Again, it's a lower cost, no wiring required solution. Even if you later go with fixed lights, you can still use the magnetic light for work under the hood or under your vehicle, so it is handy to have.

Thanks for the info and link. I just looked it up and it looks like a good idea. Saves me a couple hundred bucks going that route.

2012 JKU Rubicon
2" lift, 35" tires on stock wheels, XRC front and rear bumper, recon 8.5k waterproof winch, Rigid industries Dually D2 driving beams, LightForce 170's, 50" E series, Paramount Roof rack.... And now, probably a mag mount $79 camping light. LOL

Thanks again for your input, its greatly appreciated.

Now that I know you have a '12 Rubicon and I've saved you some money with my suggestion, then here's another thing you need for around the camp site.
I always take a string of LED Xmas tree lights with me and plug them in to the inverter to add to the atmosphere around the campfire. Makes the whiskey taste better, too.

First off, that is an awesome camp site! I am verry jealous.

We have been using all clear christmas lights for a while now. The first time i told my wife that i was going to string them up at the campsite, she laughed and said "we arent going to be THAT redneck, are we?" But after all the laughing was over and the lights were up, we really fell inlove with the idea of having just enough light, not too bright, but still enough to walk around.
And yes, it does go great with my favorite bottle of Jack!

Thanks for the reply

Installed a pair of the SR Q2's today. We'll see what kind of light they put out tonight.

Are those on a switch or wired as reverse lights?

They are on a switch. Didn't want to blind people every time I reversed.
