Default Recommended Aftermarket Alarms

Hey Jeepers - Looking into getting an aftermarket alarm for my '13 JKU. Any reco's? Anyone tried the new systems where you can unlock/start etc. access from your phone? Proximity sensor needed?

I have a 13 Jku as well. I didn't get the power acc package, but being my daily driver and my station at work being in a less than desirable area, I did some research for an alarm. I went with a viper system, one of the more inexpensive ones, with an addon proximity sensor. While it was in I had them install power door lock actuators too so I don't have to worry about friends remembering to lock the doors. I am extremely pleased with it. The proximity sensor works great with doors on or off, or windows down. Starts beeping if you're close enough to reach in, goes off if you don't walk away or actually reach in. I was on a budget for the alarm so it doesn't have the fancy phone app or auto start but like I said, works GREAT!

Just a tip, I read up on the proximity sensor install. If you don't do it yourself make sure your alarm guy is jeep savvy. The guy I went to does installs for a local jeep dealer. He installed the sensor in the center console and it looks oem. It needs to be away from metal and in the center of the vehicle, so it really works well how he positioned it.

Awesome - thanks for the info. Do you mind me asking what that ran you? I have the Power ACC package so I'm assuming it would be a bit less?

iirc the alarm was 230, the proximity sensor was an extra 80. Both prices included install. Like I said, nothing fancy, but works very well. The proximity sensor for me was a must, because I can still arm it with no doors or windows down

I had a Viper Smart Start on my previous Infiniti and it was great to be able to start the car from far away. I got it for when I was away at school and had a long trip to my car. For the cost I'd say it likely isn't worth the money, but it was an awesome feature. Regular remote start will work for me from now on.

I was more interested in the smart start in case I locked my keys in the car or something... But you're probably right in that it's a pretty hefty investment for such 'chance' things...

Sounds like something I'd like. I don't have power locks though. How much to add power locks on your ride?

cost me 75$ per door, not too bad. I read the rear doors are a PITA if using aftermarket actuators, and some places will really mess up the inside of the doors trying to fit them. Luckily the place I found did these for customers of a jeep dealer frequently and knew what they were doing. Best part they gave me a lifetime warranty on the parts and labor!

Yeah, it's hard to lock keys in your car these days and as luck would have it, the one time you needed it to work their system would probably be updating or something and it wouldn't work anyway! hah
