Default Questions about uConnect

I suspect I know the answers but...

My 2010 JK came with the base radio - no uConnect button. I found a 2007 RES radio with the uConnect button on eBay, and bought it very cheap. Then I bought the uConnect module and the iPod cable.

I installed the uConnect stuff today, then went to the dealer to get a Starscan.

The dealer said they couldn't "see" the right stuff, and blamed it on my 2007 radio. They said I had to have a 2010 radio as the bus had changed. I thanked them and went on my way.

Well, I tried the setup, and the voice commands and Bluetooth work just fine. Quite impressive actually. I can't figure out how to make the iPod cable work though.

When I plug it in, it starts charging my iPhone - I do get a message on the phone saying something about this accessory may cause interference. I press AUX on the radio, and it tells me nothing's connected.

Is this because I have a 2007 radio in a 2010 JK? I'm 100% sure I have everything installed correctly and plugged in.

Thanks

OK, I think I've found my answer on several forums. Apparently the 2007 radios did not support iPod - only 2008 and up did.

I think the change was made mid to late 2007, the good news is, if you find a 2008 or later radio, you should just be able to plug it in without another trip to the stealership. I swapped the radio out of my 2007 JK for one out of a 2008 when I got my uConnect working, but my iPod wouldn't work.

Cheers

You're probably right, but I don't think I'll bother. Will probably just sell the iPod cable.
I probably won't find a bargain on a radio like I did. The 2007 RES cost me $10 + shipping on eBay.

Thought I'd follow up on this old thread. It was the 2007 radio. I got a 2008 REQ and the iPod cable works just fine.

I now have an iPod velcro'd to the back of the glove box and happy as a pig in mud.

I think wyckoff sells the kit for a little over $250 with the uconnect module and ipod cable.. thats what i paid for mine a couple years ago.. then the dealer usually charges .5 hour labor to scan it into service...(assuming you install it yourself first)

I used the special iPod cable that plugs into the uConnect module in the glove compartment.

I paid $80 for a used REQ + about $300 for the uConnect at the stealership, and I believe another $50 for the iPod cable. The dealer charged $75 to to the Starscan.
