Default Portable Air Compressor Hardwired??

So I have a 12v-150psi, 30amp, portable air compressor from Harbor Freight w/the 30’ hose. Was wondering if anyone had or has one hardwired (any portable compressor)? All you electricians out there help me out some. Since the compressor runs by connecting the clip to the positive terminal and the other to a neutral ground and flipping the switch on. Can I hardwire the lines to the positive lead and a ground, run the wires through the firewall and mount my compressor in the rear compartment. Then splice the factory compressor switch and run it back up to one of my daystar switches on the panel? Is that it or is it more complicated than that? Relay needed or not? Thanks in advance.

I did my harbor freight one . You need a relay though and run heavy gauge wire to the battery. I have a switch in the cab. You don't wanna run all the battery juice to the switch, you need a relay.

I think it decent fills them up pretty damn fast. I have not used a stopwatch like others though .

Mkjeep, any pictures of your setup and where you mounted your compressor at?

Its behind the seat, thehc compressor replaced the one in the pic. It's strapped down, all the fittings are for quick disco, so if i dont want the tank and compresspor in there. Such as when I haul firewood and stuff

You have any pictures or writeup for it? Interested in seeing this.

Mkjeep: Do you have the air tank to run air tools and that? I figured I didn't need a tank to just fill tires since it is a 12v connection? I guess I am not too sure what the tank is actually for and that because I see the compressor next to it. Excuse my ignorance on this matter

no pics, no write ups...sorry...it was a big job...I ran all wires and air lines through the frame. The switch and gauge are in rear corner of jeep, kind of behind/next to the sub-woof. And a quick disc lower rear bumper and quick disc on top of front bumper. I can air up a 35 from 12 psi-30psi in about 3 mins.

Here's what I just did with my Harbor Freight compressor:

Purchased a mount for $50 from Brett at JeepSwag, and painted the compressor Black just for looks. Was considering hardwiring it, but for now I just ran the wiring to the battery and hang the the clips behind the battery until I need them.

Obviously, I take off the yellow hose when I'm not using it...

The harbor freight compressor is a smoking deal. Full price is $79, but it was on sale last month for $54. With my 20% off coupon, it ended up being like $44. We'll see how long it lasts. You can get the 2 year replacement warranty for $9 which I probably should have done.

Looks good!, Still trying to figure out how to do a hard wire install. I just dont understand why I would need a tank if I only want to use it for air in the tires? I know how to run all the hard lines to a relay and such, but not sure how to disassemble the switch to run my own I want to keep mine in the rear cubby though.

What size relay do I need?
