Default Poor AM reception with aftermarket radio

I recently installed a Pioneer AVIC F700BT in my JK. Now I get terrible AM reception. I get a lot of static when I go under overpasses, or am near power lines, or I can tell a difference in pitch when the blinker is on. Also, I'll be sitting still at a stop light, and I'll hear high pitch feedback almost going up and down in range.
It should be noted:
* I had to use one of those euro antenna adapters to get the stock antenna to work with the AVIC.
* I did a hardwire bypass to allow navigation input and movie playback while in motion.

As for fixing the problem:

I'll have to look again, but I think may have connected the "amplified antenna" wire, when obviously I didnt need to. Would this cause bad feedback and static?

Is it possible that all the wiring crammed in to the dash is interfering with the antenna line going in to the Avic? Is there any way to insulate the antenna wires?

I'm not going to bother with aftermarket dash mounted amplifed antenna; I've read that they make AM reception worse...

Should I run a separate and new ground wire directly to the chassis instead of using the ground wire in the stock harness?

Could it be an improperly connected antenna adapter? That thing was a mofo to get pushed together, very tight fit. Maybe I didnt push all the way in?

Should I just ditch the stock antenna and use my 4' Firestick as the radio antenna? Will that just cause more interference?

I just really want my AM back, and my favorite sports station is there. I really dont want to have to buy the HD radio antenna either...

Thanks,
Matt

Default Am radio

I dont know about the feed back noise but have you tried
to adjust the antenna. I'm not sure but in the old days
with a cassette player you could open the door. Then there
was a small screw near back that could be adjusted a little.
Then tune to a weak station and adjust the screw to peak
that station. I hope this helps. If not I tryed.
Have a great Thanksgiving !

I havent seen anyhting like that on the stock Jeep antenna, but I'll take a look.

The AM reception was fine on the stock radio, but with the new one it sucks. Leads me to believe that there is too much interference with the enormous mass of wiring that comes off the back of the AVIC being crammed in the tiny dashboard we have.

Default Am radio problem

I was not saying that the adjustment woud be on the antenna.
I was thinking that you are plugging the stock antenna into
the new aftermarket radio. The stock radio would have been
tuned to the antenna. Pull the new radio from the dash
and check to see that antenne is plugged in all the way.
More then likley you have already checked it. See if there is
any visible screw heads around the case.
( DON'T JUST TURN ANYTHING THAT YOU SEE , PLEASE. )
If there is one that is marked ANT that may be the tuner.
Do you have the onwer manuals ?

I wasn't aware AM reception was associated with another word besides poor.

Tell me about it... The only reason I know there is something wrong is because the sports talk station I listen to is about 4 miles from my house, so there shouldnt be any static at all, like on the stock radio.

I think I figured out the problem though. When I originally installed it, I had connected the "power antenna" wire. Im guessing that is causing the feedback since we dont have amplified antenna on the Jeep, so I'll disconnect and see if it helps. I'm also going to try and shield the stock antenna wire a little better so it doesnt contact anything going in to the radio.
