anyone looked into this?

http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/t...TOPIC_ID=71659

I like the fact that it has a 7" screen and a video so I can play DVD's from my factory deck. There are a lot of pages in the thread I linked to but the overall consensus was that it was a capable unit for the price.

There is a fancy Garmin unit that runs 1200 bux but it has no video input.

I started that thread, here is is a picture of what it will look like in your Jeep:

It is kind of large on the dash, that is why I opted for the AVIC-Z1.

If you are interested in that unit, I have a brand new one in the box.

how is that secured to the dash? also, does it run on a battery at all or does it need to be plugged in with that cord at all times?

how is that secured to the dash?

>>> Comes with a suction mount for the windshield or you can buy a disk that glues to the dash and use the mount there.

also, does it run on a battery at all or does it need to be plugged in with that cord at all times?

>>> It does not have an internal battery and needs to be plugged in or hardwired. You can cut the plug as the unit uses 12v.

You should read the GPSPassion forum thread you found, it will answer all your question and then some.

I paid about $550.00, but you now can get it for about $450.00.

I personally like it very much, because I knew what to expect. The GPS is very quick to connect, track very well and the video is OK.

I bought it primarily for the large display, I think it was the first out the gate like that and it worked well in my large Suburban's windshield. I still have it, actually a brand new one in the box. I had send it back for a minor issue and because of the tread I had started, they send me the latest version. Must have sold a lot of units for them.

In the meantime I am debating whether to put it on eBay or keep it, I also have the Garmin 276c, almost new.

As you can see, I could not make up my mind which one to use, well, I finally did the AVIC-Z1.

No it does not have TSS (text to speech), will however, when you follow a route, say "turn right in quarter mile" and count down till you reach the turn off.

TSS you will find mostly in high end machines.
