P0481 code advice...
Ok
Ive read just about everything i can on this and now i need some advice
I have had the check eng. light come on multiple times since I have bought this jeep with this code. I have had it to the dealership on 3 occasions where they have essentially replaced everything and the light still comes on with this same code.
Associated with the light and code is that the lights on the A/C dial buttons do not come on when depressed. The A/C works but the light does not work.
I can clear the code with the black battery cable or the procal but eventually it comes back on and the same issue occurs.
Any idea at all? I feel like trying to take time off work to setup another dealership appt. is just a waste of time. They do not seem to be able to fix it tho i do feel they have tried.

P0481-COOLING FAN 2 CONTROL CIRCUIT
Set Condition:
The PCM is requesting the TIPM to turn on the Cooling Fan On and it is not operating. One Trip Fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.
Possible Causes
CAN C BUS FAILURE
ENGINE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR DTCS SET
COOLING FAN CONTROL CIRCUIT DTCS SET IN THE TIPM
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
Have they checked the items above?
When you idle the engine for a while, does the radiator fan ever come on?
Do you ever see the engine temp gauge climb above the center position?
Does the radiator fan come on when you turn on the AC?

yah i printed that out and brought it to them. They suggest none of these are the problem.
I just dont know where to go with it at this point but i hate that on a 2010 brand new 30K vehicle an engine light comes on

Tell them to fix it or threaten a Lemon Law if they can't.

I was hoping you could tell us what you observed regarding these questions:
1. When you idle the engine for a while, does the radiator fan ever come on?
2. Do you ever see the engine temp gauge climb above the center position?
3. Does the radiator fan come on when you turn on the AC?
After all, you did ask if we had any ideas.

It sounds like the fan is operative, but maybe not the high speed when requested. That's why P0481 is set.
Ask the dealer if they were able to force the fan to come on at the high speed with their scan tool.
If they could, then the problem is intermittent.
If they could not, and there were no other codes set, they should have done this:
Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Relay, Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Relay, Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors.
Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
This would be kind of tedious, so you may want to look these things over yourself.
If they were not able to force the fan to come on at high speed, and there were no problems found with connections, etc. they should have replaced the Powertrain Control Module.
