Default Overhead sPOD Replacement or DIY

I really dig the sPOD that goes on top the windshield. However that's a crazy overkill price for $450+. I work with electricity and electronics and can say that's bat poop crazy. I'm trying to find a DIY for putting a minimum of four switches in that spot but having a hard time trying to find something that's aesthetically pleasing with the space needed for the relays and wires etc etc.

Has anyone done or have a link to a similar DIY?

I've seen someone take a daystar switch panel, cut off the actual switch box part, and mold that into the plastic between the visors. Looked fantastic! I use the lower dash daystar panel and just use the relays from the various accessories.

I did more or less that with some fiberglass.
Started out with a cardboard template and then covered it with polyester resin and a few fiberglass layers.
The final layer is a black T-shirt, that eliminates the need for paint, and gives a rough texturized finish, somewhat similar to the jeep's hard top.

You don't have to buy the entire sPOD. They will sell you that control panel alone, then you provide your own wiring and fuse and relay box (that's all the sPOD really is, plus a protective circuit in case your battery voltage gets too low it cuts everything off that's on the sPOD). I think it runs about $150. Add it with the OTRATTW (over the road and through the woods) switch toggles and a VDO 350104 Vision Style oil pressure gauge, and it makes a very nice install.
