Not Happy with Alpine sound system in 2013 JK Rubicon
Traded my 2012 Wrangler Sport 2 Door with the Infinity Sound System for a 2013 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon for the extra room. I noticed on the window sticker that the 2013 had an Alpine system. Didn't really get an opportunity to "play" with it at the dealership and assumed it would be on par or better than the Infinity system. However, after dealing with this for a couple of weeks now, I can't seem to adjust the so called equalizer to equal the sound that I enjoyed with the Infinity system. The sound doesn't seem as clean...
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I have read other posts where sound was improved by lining the speaker housings. Thoughts?
Thanks!

I have not had the exact similar experience but I do you if you stuff quite a bit of poly fill around the roll bar speakers it makes a world of difference. I put four kicker qs components in mine and they sounded like crap for the $1500, but once I put the poly fill in there the are crazy good.

Thanks for the feedback. I will get some polyfill. Are there any tricks or lessons learned to share about this project? Did you attempt to do the same to the dash speakers?

I had the same thoughts with my system. It didn't sound clear by any stretch and I couldn't get the equalizer right. Then I dropped the bass down to 3 and left the mid and treble higher and noticed a big difference in clarity. It seems the eq bass only controls the bass in the speakers (not the sub) and leaving it up muddles the sound. Turning it down cleared it up quite a bit but the sub still delivers adequate bass. Not door rattling, but decent. But I doubt door rattling is what many here are going for. Hope this helps.

I just picked mine up right before Christmas and thought the same thing. Very poor system for the money so I changed it all out. I figured if it was that bad with the top on, it'd be far worse with it off.
-Kenwood Excelon HU
-2 Fosgate punch amps stacked in the factory location - 4x75w and 1x300w for sub
-Focal components in the dash locations that were dynamatted and poly filled.
Fiberglassed and filled the sound bar to make it rigid. Filled the center section with expanding foam insulation to eliminate vibrations around the dome light and poly filled. Put in 6 3/4" Focal two-ways. Mid-bass is tight and powerful.
Rebuilt the factory sub with fiberglass enclosure for R. Fosgate 10" shallow mount sub. Linexed the sub box and inside of the tailgate for $100 to eliminate vibration.
Still dialing in the EQ, but a million times better than the factory sound for about $1100 and some labor over the holidays.

I got the Boston speakers for XMas, but have not put them in yet.... Pretty cheap investment if it makes as much difference as most say.... I was not overly impressed with the Alpine system in my 2013 either....

I don't think just speakers for a 13 ate going to work. The problem is the amp. My dealer tried replacing a couple speakers and front tweeters. Go in for the amp next week. I was also coming from a 12. I am in the process of finding out the true manufacture of the amp. So far I don't think anything is alpine. Still getting my ducks in line.

Thanks for the information. I actually turned the base down to +3 and it did improve the clarity. I am going to Polyfill the soundbar next. Try the cheapest options first, LOL! I have my sights set on new stubby bumper with 10.5K winch. Would have pulled the trigger already, but trying to find one that can accommodate the factory fog lights.
