You definitely would use a grill on the speaker for protection. The cloth alone would do no good. Its just the point the sound can travel through. The JL has a specific grill that I will use.

looks good, but floor space is limited and long drives may get cramped,,,,, working on something with a guy from westminster speed and sound,,,,,, see what he can come up with..... pretty neat idea to put it there but i know my girl would be complaining

I actually was playing around with the box wizard on rockford's website and realized I could have gone a full inch shorter on the front. I attached the site to show the dimensions. Mine is 10", But it could be as short as 9" deep and achieve the right amount of volume.

I am anxious to hear the result! C'mon ups!

My wife is 4'10" so her feet barely reach the floor

My first idea was under the rear seat, I would be interested in a single box that is confined to the 40% side of the rear, that way I could still use the 60% side to fold down and cary cargo.

Keep me in the loop on the design! I love this stuff, this is my first jeep and I only had it for 2 weeks before I started all this, I can't live without it!

sweet..... thinking about using fiberglass and doing a side pod/ type design,,,, i used to work for a shop doing funny car and dragster bodies so i have accesse to carbon fiber, kevlar, and glass..... also the ability to make plugs out of foam and then make molds off of them in glass..... so really i can get pretty stupid in the design..... actually thinking about two 8's maybe three with one in the console,,,,, not sure i can just build it but my buddy has the brains to design it......

A friend of mine installed his MA Audio 8" under the 40 side of the rear seat. Had to remove the front two legs and once installed that side of the seat was angled up a little bit. Sound quality and loudness was horrible. That could be due to box volume as it was a tiny box. Because of this I just went with a simple carpeted cube that I can take out of the rear whenever I want. Sounds much better and the times I needed the rear space in a pinch I can just move the box into the front seat temporarily.

My fear of a 10" in the trunk area is whether I could hear it flying down the freeway with the top off.

What's your experience?

You are right about that , I also put a 12 back there when I want more sound and it's still hard to hear it just with the top off and going down the road
