Default New Sound Setup

Hey Everyone!

So i have been reading a bunch of different
threads about many peoples different situations
for upgrading their sound. I have learned some
of the basic stuff like i will realisticaly
need to get an amp if i want to improve my setup
to where id like it. (I have the bone stock sound
system on my X)

Unfortunatly other then knowing i will need an amp
i, like many other people with similar threads, have no
other clue about anything else.

I was wondering if anyone know of a sound upgrading 101
thread or something like that i have not come across.

Im not looking to get too complicated, but i do want to upgrade
my speakers and get some kind of sub installed also.

So if anyone knows of any information about what i will need
or where in the jeep i can install these things (like the sub and amp),
any help to point me in the right direction would be apreciated

I honestly do listen to everything music wise, and while i dont want some huge ghetto blaster i do like having good bass, so bassically something that will give me good solid all around sound.

As far as price, im not looking to go all out and spend alot of money, but im willing to spend what i need to for a set up thats wothwhile

I am using a JL Audio amp. its a mono block 250-1. Im pushing two 12" concepts. The speakers are a branch of bazookas. If you know anything about Bazookas they specialize in open cab vehicles. I took out the factory 10" and tapped into the wire the wire. I then put a converter on the wire to give me a left and right signal so i didnt have to get a new head unit. all the other wires were ran accordingly. power, remote. etc. I still have space in my trunk as well. This system was taken out of my previous vehicle and it has lasted me about 5 years now so its def. a bang for the buck. Honestly this system will rock your face.

A dollar ammount would be helpful. Do you want to keep your factory head unit? That will make a big diffrence in our suggestions.

For an entry level system I'd expect to dish out $300-$500. That's enough for a decent amp and subwoofer.

300-500 sounds like a good range for a decent amp and sub to me

As far as the HU goes from reading around im finding that
the stock (non-infinity) head unit has no out for an amp?
If thats right i guess that means i will need to drop
a bit more money for a new head unit also, which i dont mind.

I agree that an amp and sub deff will improve your stock sound. Just had the head replaced, sub and amp added. Custom box under pass side so I don't lose any needed space.

Other then a custom box for the amp, where does everyone place them? I remember seeing the stock infinity amp under the steering wheel, will an aftermarket one fit under there? I have also seen some under the drivers seat, is there a kit for that?

i too had the basica stock X setup and it was just all around bad. when i had it strictly stock. However i came across a steal at bestbuy and got an infinity basslink for $60.00 My Basslink is self powered with a 200w amplifier and contains a 10" infinity subwoofer. by just adding this unit it made my entire system come to life. since adding the basslink, i have no need to upgrade anything else. now i know why it is a $300.00 unit.
the only thing needed to install this is an amplifier kit, and then you just either tap into the speakers or use an RCA converter, i had bestbuy install and use an RCA converter.

Default I recommend

a powrered Bazooka. It was cheap (about $60 used on E-bay and $60 bucks installation at Best Buy). It sounds awesome, too.

It's easy to detach it as it has a connector and I have a two door and when I need a room, I can just take it out and leave it at home.

Some small amps will fit under the steering wheel. I know of one (maybe two) person(s) that put an Alpine PDX amp there. The one I know for a fact didn't use a kit. He had a local shop handle that part of the install. They probably had to fab something up. Just be careful. He had to dig around in there after the fact because his brake switch got rearranged.

Mine, also PDX, is under the passenger seat and the capacitor is under the drivers seat. I am in the minority. Most people are concerned with water there so they put the amp up higher. No kit there either. I had to fab everything myself.

If you want a diagram PM me and I will send you pics and some measurements.
