Default Need help with wiring

Hello all. As a bit of background, I come from the XJ world. My brother in law has an 08 X. I have aided some in getting him jacked up about starting to do various mods. I made a comment on how much I love the added light I get from my two hella 500's. He is young and money is tight so one of the first things he has done is to buy an olympic light bar and two hella driving lights. While somewhat inserting foot into mouth, I told him I would gladly help him wire his lights. In doing mine on my XJ, I simply spliced into the high beam and used the provided wires and accessories and made it to where mine come on high beam and go off on lows. There is a rocker switch in the cab that simply can cut them off and on (on with high beam). I had planned on doing his the same way as I seen it the way he would get the most use out of them. In doing some searching, I have found that the new jeep have a CANBUS system. Don't know much about it, just know that it might not be as simple as my XJ. What is you guys recommendation? I guess I could wire straight to battery and just use rocker switch but he wouldn't be able to use driving due to difficulty of dimming for oncoming traffic. I am no expert, so I would like recommendations of a simple nature. Read some on diodes and such and keep getting lost. Thanks you guys and I hope you guys will be hearing more from us.

First, Welcome to the forum. This is the schemattic that I prefer. Just replace the OE circuit with a tap from the high beam. The accessory circuit should come from a fuse tap in the fuse box.

This schemattic will give you more controll. It has a full time OFF setting.

Please excuse my ignorance. This isnt my strong point. by tapping high beam, just see which wire has voltage on it coming right out of the head light? Also, the fuse tap, are you talking about an add a fuse in the fuse box?

Ya I wish I could tell you what color wire to tap at the headlight. But I don't know. Surely someone else can chime in on the correct wire.

The fuse tap can be found at your local auto parts store. All you have to do is just plug it into your fuse box at an empty fuse holder location. Preferably one that only has power when the accessory switch is on.
