Default need a air horn valve?

Well,, I got me a set of nice trucker air horns,,,, wife wasn't too happy,, but $25, she didn't say much.. Also got me a nice air tank that has a pressure relief valve and an in and out,, from an older on board air setup that a guy was pulling from an old CJ. I have a small 12v compressor to mount and will be doing that soon.. Now the big question,, i need a valve to operate the air horns.. would like an electric operated valve but,,
Any ideas??
Thanks,,
Steve

Steve,

I was just talking to my father-in-law last night. He is a truck driver and has a couple of sets of air horns lying around and said I could have one. I'm in no hurry to add the stuff now as I don't have any way to cheaply add air to my rig, but I too was wondering if there was a good electronically operated air valve that would work.

To cheaply add air pick up a small compressor from pep-boys.. the one I got will fill up four 31" tires from 8# to 35# in like 15 minutes.. works ok,, and only $60.. I'm going to hard mount it under the hood somewhere for air for tires and the horn,, and also the air powered blender I've been working on..

My wife has put the kabosh on any Jeep accessory purchaces after she found out how much the pintle hitch was.

And I still don't have a good idea for a cheap electronically controlled air valve.

cheap...not sure...but easy.. Nitrous Oxide valves work well and easily.

From what has been said you need an air compressor with a longer duty cycle or else it will not last long at all for and "on board" air system. Save your $60 for a true on board air system. I'm sure the ones from pep-boys have their uses but IMHO not as an on board air system.

You can find them on Ebay, or try a truck stop, or one of the trucker's accessory stores that you sometimes find near truck stops. Ask for an air horn valve or air horn solenoid. Should be $10-$20, give or take. You only have to hook up a positive and a ground wire, and the air supply line and the line that goes to the horn. Simple.

I hear you about the duty cycle,, but these little ones have a better duty cycle than the arb compressors that cost $200.. and out perform them.. I don't expect to run air tools off them,, just for filling tires and running the horn,, and if I ever finish the blender..

Also I don't expect the compressor to last forever but they have had great reviews on other sites,, even long term use.. Its great to have to fill up tires when towing trailers that have sat for years.. never know how long those tires will hold air..
