Default MyGIG Geo. Coordinates

OK, I've recently started doing some geocaching and to help me get close, I've tried using MyGig, however, when entering in the Lattitude & Longitude, I only get 2 digits at the end instead of 3 like my Garmin Ventures uses as well as all the coordinates I get from geocaching.com has 3. It also tries to be predictive and block out numbers you would not use, but in the example below, it would not let my put in the 7 for 56.725. I think 5 was the highest number showing, which places me a good distance off.

Here's an example:

From Geocahing.com
N 33° 18.276 W 111° 56.725

MyGig (what it allowed me to imput)
N 33° 18.27 W 111° 56.59

Here's what I'm looking for, is there a way to get 3 digits at the end in MyGig? if not, how do I round the coordinates to get me where I need to be?

Should it be:

+33° 18' 2.76 -111° 56' 7.25

if so, you can convert to decimal:

33.300767, -111.935347

Another though is that what your looking at is already decimal:

+33.18276 -111.56725

which would convert to:

+33° 10' 57.94", -111° 34' 2.10"

This would put you somewhere between williams gateway and the florence military reservation.

I used the other conversions link and found:

Normal GPS Coordinates (WGS84 Datum)
Decimal 33.3046 -111.94542
DDD MM.MMM N 33° 18.276 W 111° 56.725
DDD MM SS.SSS N 33° 18' 16.5600" W 111° 56' 43.5012"

Older Datum (NAD27)
DECIMAL 33.30452 -111.9447
DDD MM.MMM N 33° 18.271 W 111° 56.682
DDD MM SS.SSS N 33° 18' 16.2720" W 111° 56' 40.9020"

UTM
12S E 411986 N 3685454
British Grid
12521525 -10864480

Decimal is an option in the mygig... Have you tried that?

scouter4life-
Geocaching.com is DD MM.MMM while MyGIG is DD MM SS. For example, N 33° 18.276 W 111° 56.725 is N 33° 18’ 17” W 111° 56’ 44”.

You can use your GPSr to do the conversion. Enter the coordinates from geocaching.com as DD MM.MMM, then change the GPSr view to be
DD MM SS.S. If you want to use a Web page here's a link to a converter.

Thanks All, knowing that I can convert it on my Garmin will help. I'll just do that from now on. It'd be nice if there was some sort of standard, but I'll figure this stuff out.

scouter4life - oops, sorry. I didn’t know you wanted to know how to calculate it my hand.

It’s pretty simple (though I typically still use one of those web based calculators). The geocaching.com site has minutes as MM.MMM. There are 60 seconds in a minute, so you take the fractional part of the minutes (.MMM) and multiply it by 60 to get the number of seconds.

In your example, the 18.276 is .276*60 or 16.6 seconds and 56.725 is .725*60 or 43.5 seconds. I rounded up the numbers (17 and 44) because MyGIG only permits 2 digit seconds.

Hope that helps.

Hey guys I am new to the gps coords thing. A buddy of mine gave me the long and lat of a camp site in Arkansas where we are going camping next month. He has bet me money that I can't find it with my fancy gps. I tried to input it on the mygig and told him what roads that it listed for me to get to the spot. He said I was 20 miles off. Will one of you figure out these cords. and show/tell me how to input it on the mygig so I can win some money?
Here they are word for word as he wrote them down

N 34 degrees 25' 46.72"
W 94 degrees 14' 7.43"

Degrees/minutes/seconds
Format.

Thanks for your guys help
Andrew

SFD1248Unlimited - Here’s the location on Google Maps.

With MyGIG you need to create an entry in your address book then for the address use Geo Coordinates and enter N 34 25 47 and W 94 14 07.

Enjoy the money!

Under what setting do I put those though? it has two sections the one on the left and then a different way to enter them on the right
