MyGIG DVD Playback. How many channels?
#2
Depends on how you have it setup, and what you mean by "output"
if you mean output to the VES/headphones, it's 2 channel?
If you mean to the amp, then it's an odd 2 channel fixed level, then the amp processes it into the separate channels which makes it 4.1 but it's supposed to emulate your standard 5.1 sound. (And that 4.1 is odd, since it's 2 channel front tweeter, 2 channel front mid/low, 2 channel mid/high sound bar, 2 channel sub)
But I think you are using an aftermarket amp, and the 4 channel "line level" outputs in your setup, so in that case it's just 4 channels, all full range. (full range meaning lows/mids/highs. No xover)

Are those channels descrete? Meaning is it true 4.1 or is is 2.1 with the fronts and rears doing the same channels?
I ask because when I re-do my system next month I need to know if it's worth wiring up speakers in the speaker bar or not.

If you take the amp out, it IS 4 separate channels.
(Actually either way it seems to be? But with the amp, it's doing something weird since the amp does all the processing and there are two wires and the canbus going mygig to amp)
I can find out for certain next weekend.

Ok, and I get that. I really do.
Here's what I'm asking, and where I think I'm loosing you.
Is it playing back DVD audio in 4.1 surround sound or is it playing it back in 2.1?
Are the rear speakers seperate channels? Or are they just copies of the front channels? Meaning, if I were to put in my THX test disc and do the speaker setup would it treat the LEFT FRONT as a seperate channel from the LEFT REAR? Or would it treat them as the same channel? Am I making sense?

So it's neither "2.1" or "4.1" as all the speakers carry some of each others signal to emulate that center.
That said, you'd be fine with just the front two.
But if you don't have the amp, the full range coming out at your head is fairly nice, (specially since I'm guessing your installer will fix the resonance issues with the soundbar.)
I should walk downstairs and check, but I'm overly lazy. (And mine is so bastardized it might not be a legit check) But I can get a real answer for you in a week or so.

Thanks bro. I appreciate it.
I'm asking as i'm wondering if I really need to put any speakers in the soundbar at all if I do a set of quality components in the dash. If it's only a 2 channel setup there's really no point in putting in the soundbar speakers.
I was thinking about re-wiring the rollbar speakers to be the output for a CB.
