Default my jk doesnt have nav, what are some after market replacements?

ok picked up a 12 rubi with 5k on the odo. only thing missing from it for me was the factory nav. What options are there aftermarket to replace the factory head unit with that intergrate with the factory dash well?

only one I have seen recently is a kenwood head unit with built in garmin in it. Can the factory unit be picked up from jeep and installed? or do they want way too much for that to be worth while?

If Kenwood makes one then there must be more?

You have map apps on a phone, some good apps have topography for the trails. OEM nav units have street info. For on road info, OEM or aftermarket head units are ok if you like them. For me, I wish I had the option to delete the nav and save $1,500.

Would really recommend you seriously consider something like the Nexus 7 Android tablet. It has way more features than any built-in system, and at far less cost. For about $350-400 (including tablet, mounting, Bluetooth adapter and apps) you can have street navigation, topo mapping and navigation with live GPS tracking, vehicle CAN bus performance monitoring, music, document storage retrieval (say copies of your backcountry permits, etc), a bubble level, a calculator, a web browser, Google Earth, Google SkyMap (astronomy app), and on and on and on. Here's an (admittedly poor quality, sorry about that) video of my install ...

If your going to go with another head unit then ken wood IMO is the best. Garmin navy is one of the best. Pandora. Bluetooth. And it will unrestrict the sound and your system should sound better. And way cheaper than a factory unit wilh Mac and all that. For some reason people think the factory is gold and sale them for ridiculously high prices.

i second the Kenwood. I have the DNX-9980HD. I love it. I am a stereo guy by trade. I literally have installed all the latest and greatest. The best, currently on the market, is the Kenwood DNN-990HD. Very similar to my HU, but many new features. It has everything. Really. Haha. Even wifi internet tethering. Google chrome. Haha. It is a very highend head unit, highend voice controlled nav (Garmin) , highend Bluetooth system, and a tablet all in one. With DVD.

Is it using Bluetooth for custom functionality, or is it just using it to connect up an iPhone? Can it display some semblance of this?

In addition to street maps, do its maps provide topographic info useful for off-roading like this?

In addition, does it provide for easy import using standard GPS formats of off-highway navigation routes. Then, once a route has been driven, does it allow for easy export such that you can share it with users of many other GPS devices, and display and review the track on Google Earth?

MyGig is starting to crap out, I am looking to replace it. What are some good replacements? I also have the infinity sound system with the amp, I'd like to possibly replace that also, but Be able to mount it in the same spot. I have replaced all the speakers with Hertz and want to maximize them. What have you all found to work the best.

No. And it doesn't have a depth finder/fish finder either. It isn't an off-road GPS. It is, however, a very good nav system for what 99.9% of the drivers in the US would use. Haha. It does have coordinate derived mapping. Just not topographical. It is what guys like me use to get from their homes in Texas to their parents vacation homes in Colorado. And from their homes in Colorado to Ouray and the "trails". Somehow, when on the trails, I always like the older trail guides. Call me nostalgic.

Oh. It gets me and my Nitro to lakes all over the south too. Where my Lawrence gets me to the fish.
