I just stuck a sticky pod suction cup to the center dash panel of my JK. I'll go back out in a while and see if it's still stuck to the dash or not. I only have a single suction cup. I don't have a complete set up.

 

Still stuck. I pulled it. Seems to work OK on the center dash panel. Your mileage may vary.

 

LL Rue and ReallyRightStuff are places that specialize in gear for action photo use and have some stuff that works for other than usual mounting situations. They have ball heads as well. Another good tripod for creative use is the Gorilla pod which costs about 24.95 I think but the legs are made so that you can twist them around objects for holding your camera as well as mounting on a flat surface.

I forgot there is another small cheap tripod 14.95 I think called the ultrapod, not made for cars but very versatile. They have their own website. I have used it in the bush and it is really capable and sturdy.
