Default Line Out Converter Help...

I have a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited with the "upgraded" infinity system, which is acceptable, but not to my liking. I want to improve the system. However, I have the "high end" Nav system, and paid $1800 for it as a factory option, so I must keep the OEM headunit.

Now, I know to do this, I need a LOC, so I have ordered an Audiocontrol LC6i.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC6I...ml?search=lc6i

Pardon my ignorance, as I have installed many systems in my time, but have never used a LOC. So, on to my question...

The Jeep has an OEM headunit, that sends a signal to the OEM amp, which then sends the signal to the tweeters, woofers, and subwoofers. I wanted to know where I should tap the signal from? Do I tap it at the source (back of the headunit before the signal hits the OEM amp) or do I tap it AFTER the amp before the speakers? I will be replacing (actually bypassing) the OEM amp with an Alpine PDX5, so I just wanted to make sure I have everything set up correctly.

Thanks for any and all help.

Seems like a lot of people running a LOC are tapping the speakers wire in the rear near there sub.

I can't imagine why someone would do that, unless they are mounting the amp in the rear. Since I am installing a 5 channel amp, I will be installing it in the front so I need to tap into the front as well. Thanks for the idea though.

You can put the amp where ever you want, you just run your RCA's from your amp to your LOC.

I added my loc directly behind the head unit in my 08 X. Had trouble fitting the HU back in, so I routed it to between the air vents in the middle. Then ran RCA cables to my amp under drivers seat

Are you keeping the factory amp, and, if so, are you adding another amp?

If you tap into anything before the amp you will have no volume control. PAC audio makes an adapter that goes right behind the head unit and has better sound quality than a loc plus you will still have volume control, but its $150. For full range sound with a loc, you will need to splice into the front speakers after the amp. Rear speakers are crossed over with no bass. I would call PAC, they know thier shit.

Sorry... I need to learn how to read.

You need to tap into the factory wiring between your head unit and the PDX. If you're leaving the factory amp in, you want to do it after the factory amp.
