Jl stealthbox install questions
I just installed a jL stealthbox. I love the fit and the look!
So here are my questions...I retained my factory 430N head unit and added an audio control lc2i for my output I have a 5 channel amp Kenwood excelon xr900-5 it's running my interiors and the sub. I feel like I hear a lag between the sub and the interiors (sub hitting after it should) it kind of makes me feel like there's not enough power running to the sub. The amp is supposed to push 400watts RMS from the sub channel.
Does anyone have any insight?
Thank you in advance.

Your sub is underpowered. Especially for a JL sub. The stealth box is rated at 600w at 3ohms.
Your amp does 350w at 2 ohms which is probably giving the stealth box about 250w or so at 3ohms. That's less than half the recommended power. I usually match the RMS on the sub to the RMS on my amp or even overpower by a little bit. If you max out your gains on the amp you risk clipping and potential damage to you sub. At the very least, I would run a 600w amp with that sub.

That funky 3ohm voice coil makes things more difficult.

What you could be hearing may be a few different things. Underpowered is okay, but you run risks there. Clean power is awesome. Overpowered is great. You can always turn the gain down.
The sounds you may be hearing can be distortion. The speaker being clipped or playing frequencies that the enclosure and sub together aren't built to play. Making the sub hard to recover to its next frequency. Also, check your frequency on your amp for the sub. You wanna set the cutoff somewhere around the 80hz to 100hz range.
If you have a subsonic filter. Find a rap song you enjoy(it's just easier this wAy). You can google what frequency this song is on google and can probably find it. Find whatever song hits the hardest, the note that hits the hardest is probably your peak frequency. That's where you wanna start with your subsonic filter. From there play the song and adjusts the subsonic to what sounds best to you.
But remember when you play another song that is of a lower frequency if your subsonic is too low your could do damage to the sub. If its set too high you won't get much of the low note. You have to tinker with it. Especially if you don't have a spl meter to find peak frequency. If your box is ported find what frequency your box is tuned to and that's a good start at where to set the subsonic filter

True. I have that amp on a 2ohm sub and it makes a prodigious amount of bass at about 1/3 gain. But I agree more power is better than less, I've seen alot of people overdrive underpowered amps only to find that they blow their expensive subs.

This seems to be the amp everyone uses for the sub. What so you think?
I really didn't want to do this. Now I have to return the 5 channel and find a place for 2 Amps 😒

Just read up a little more on my amp.. it's 600 watts at 2 ohms. So do you still think its not enough power? I don't even know what kind of amp to get. I prefer a 5 channel so I don't have 2 under my seat, but the JL 5 channel is the same wattage as my amp for the sub channel.
Ahhhhhhhh I just want it to sound good and be done.

The first thing you need to do is figure out if you have the 13TW5-3 or the 13TW5v2-2/4 sub in your stealthbox. MattK11 is giving great advice, but it is only for the 13TW5-3. The 13TW5-3 is 600w @ 3 ohms(which is discontinued), while the 13TW5v2-2/4 is 600w @ 2/4ohms. Just to clerify the 13TW5v2 is available in 2 or 4 ohms hence the 2/4 although the stealthbox is advertised on the JL site with the 2 ohm version. Once you know what version of sub you have then you can start asking about ways to fix the issue you are having with your current setup.
