Default Ipod Adapter in 08 jk ?

We recently purchased a New to us 08 sahara and it has what appreas to be a ipod cable in the glove box. its a single black cable that has a large gromet on it and fix my ipod. it attaches to something up by the radio but i cannot see it unless i remove some dash componants. can some one explain who these work or give me an idea how the fascia comes apart so i can get a part number off this thing. i have pluged my ipod mini into it and nothing. it does not seem to charge it or allow it to play through the stereo. Thanks in advance for you assitance

Check this thread out to see how to remove the dash.

I suspect that the iPod mini is not compatible though.

It could be the mini thing. Most aren't usable for that. In my previous vehicle I had an Alpine with the adapter. iPod was put away in the glovebox and all iPod controls were on the radio.
