Question Interior Lighting

Hey,

So living in Canada, it tends to get darker a lot sooner. I have found a number of times that it would be much more convienent if i had extra lighting in the front of my jeep wrangler unlimited. I was thinking something along the lines of LED's or small bulbs coming off of the front windhsield bar or off the side roll bars with pivoting mounts.
Has anyone ever installed lights inside in the front. any suggestions on ideas?

Mainly, how did you wire them. I was thinking of installing a toggle switch in the panel by the four way flasher button. Is there any way i could tie it in to the 12V line? any idea what kind of resistors i would require (wire diagram). i just really dont want to F up any wiring in my Jeep.

if you have done it before, could you shed some light on my subject and maybe throw in some pics.

Thanks

You could put the leds under the center dash area how it kinda has the steps that go down. (where the radio is and such) put LED's on the underside of that edge and you will have a glow going down. Ive seen pictures somewhere but cant seem to find them now. Just make sure you put them on a dimmer switch. Click image for larger version

yeah, that would be good. They look pretty awesome.

just the main think i would be using it for is for the odd time; maps, papers, directions, find stuff on the floor, etc.

so im looking for more of usable lighting than asthetic lighting.

You could use those there and just make them white and then put a few down in by the footwell area. I had them in my old jeep and thats all i have a picture of and they were in blue but here you go. For functionality I would put a white led strip by youre feet in front and back and then i would put Led strip under the sunvisor on each side as a light there. They have the 3m sticky on the back and you can just stick them up there and run the wires down through the roll cage area. Click image for larger version

There are LED strips you an purchase online. They have an adhesive backing. As stated you can just peel and stick them under the "step" in the dash. The strips are designed to wire directly to 12VDC, no resistor required. They can be cut between every thrd LED for a custom length.

Green matches the dash color and is not bad for night vision.

Look at oznuim.com. Wide selection.

Fortunately for us the JK lighting system supports dimming LEDs. You can tap into the HVAC Orange/Grey wire for illumination. LEDs don't draw much power so a strip shouldn't overload the circuit. You can also wire them directly to a switch. No need for a relay.

You can also install LEDs in the footwells. Again select a length, cut to size and stick them on the bottom of the lowest panel. You can then wire then direct to tge dome light circuit or direct to a switch. Or if you get a 3 position switch you can wire them to both.

Exactly what he has said but for maps and stuff I think an led under the sun visor would be good along with the footwells. You can pick up the LED's at Autozone too and they are good quality. Ive used them inside out out and never broke one. Also are cuttable every 3 lights

The way I have powered mine in the past are splicing into other lights in the car or jeep or else running it to the battery through a switch. It all depends when you want them on. I have mine turn on when the doors open in the jeep so I spliced into the overhead light dome light so when that goes on with the opening of the door so do the LED's. Another option is to splice into the cig lighter which depending on which you use will stay on while the jeep is on or will always stay on so you will most likely want to run a switch for these too. Or else just go straight to the battery and have it run through a switch so you can turn them on and off whenever. Does this answer your question?

You could add white led strips like I did, I also have strips added in the rear and on top of the sound bar, you would be surprised how much light you get

Except I obviously used blue!
