Default Instrument cluster dimmer

Here’s an odd one. The the dimmer switch on the multifunction stalk can normally adjust the brightness of the lights across the instrument cluster, radio, climate control, etc.

I noticed last night that the dimmer switch in my 08 Rubicon (electrically stock except for a relayed headlamp wiring harness that’s been on it for many years) is able to dim all the lights you would expect it to control except for one group.

The only area that will not dim is the group immediately around the PRNDL and odometer.

Anyone have that happen on their rig? I’m just surprised that the dimmer control would be separate for different sections of the cluster. The odometer/tripmeter and gear-selection appear to be functioning correctly, they just won’t dim.

Yesterday I had both exhaust manifolds replaced (under warranty!!) so I know there was a lot of aggressive banging around in the engine bay and wrestling with wiring harnesses, etc.

I glanced at everything last night but I’ll be checking the wiring block connectors and inspecting the work more thoroughly today now that it’s cooled off.

.
Apparently the light was brighter because more than one DTC was triggered. 🤷🏻‍♂️
