Default HU and Subwoofer info/help

I just got my 08 JK 4 door (4x4 thank you)- Black. Love it! I came from a 2000 Grand Cherokee....LOVE THE JK!!!! (Not the stereo).

I am going to swap the HU for a Sony I already have. I am having trouble finding the dash fit kit and wireing harness, is it the same as the 07?

Also, I want to add a subwoofer, has anyone fit anything in the storage bucket ? If so what did you use? Or is under the seat a good place? I already have a decent 10" woofer just waiting to be installed. I do not want it to be out in the open so a thief can grab it.
Any other ideas?

Thanks
Joe

That's a great question. One I can't recall being asked before. I would assume they would be nearly identical if not identical.

Since the 08s have been out for just over a month or two...might be awhile before you can get a straight answer on this. Only way to know is to buy an 07 dash kit and harness and let us know! You might try to pick one up locally or somewhere you can definitely return it.

Shouldn't have to tear it up to tell if its going to work.

Any other 08 owners gone aftermarket yet?

I think I found the answer in this thread:
https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...398#post193398

Looks like the dash kit is a Metra 95-6511 and the wiring harness is a Metra XSVI-6522....I hope.

OK, I got the order last night.
The dash kit and wire harness were correct. The dash kit has a "pocket" under the HU, any additional storage in a Jeep is a good thing! The ant converter was not the right one, I need the Metra 40-EU10, not the Metra 40CR10. They are sending the right one out to me. It was not hard to swap the HU at all, took about 20 mins including splicing in the wire harness.
The new HU sounds MUCH better than the stock unit. The rear "soundbar" speakers still sound like dookie, all four will be replaced soon. I will see if the soundbar can be packed with something to help with the sound output, cant make it any worse. I will work on the sub later. Not sure if I want to put a sub in the storage tub or under the seat yet,
I will try to post some pics later.

That's great news..I'm glad they didn't change anything from 07 to 08. That would have been a nightmare!

Other than the antenna, it was a very clean install.
So.....does this mean I have done my first mod??
