Default Help with wiring in Garmin Nav to Perm power

Guys,

Now that I am done traveling full time for my job and get to stay home now, I am bored....which is bad for my wallet and for getting in trouble with my wife, adding stuff to my jeep.

Anyway, I have a garmin nuvi unit and wanted to wire it perm into the jeep somehow, just hate the wires to the sig lighter power showing....

I was thinking of just trying the power cord into the back of the lighter, Is that a bad idea, or is there a better solution?

Mike

Question Please Help....same question

Just got my Nuvi 760 today and need to hardwire it....also looking for a way to mount it discreetly somewhere....kind of like the rolltop trail guide unit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can tap into the Cigarette lighter wire using taps (I Like Posi-taps). However, you're going to need to figure out a way of incorporating the Garmin cigarete lighter adapter, as just cutting it off is a sure way to fry your nav unit.

As far as mounting solutions go, nothing will really be discrete. But the other day the girlfriend bought a Nuvi. We took my jeep to best buy, and I was kind of toying around with the unit (Even though I have a nav system in there).

If I were to mount a nuvi, I'd just use the included plate, and stick it next to the tweeter. Then, I'd just suction cup the holder right on it when needed.

My setup is not real discrete but blends in nicely when the unit is removed.

I've got the Garmin 760 mounted next to the radio. The mount is from Quadratec (17017.001) and on it is a ball/socket type clip from Proclip (215165).

I still haven't done any permanent power wiring due to the cig lighter plug having the traffic receiver built in.

you can buy a cig plug install that under the dash somewhere then would not see the plug
