help with tweeter mounting
hey guys, i have been wanting to upgrade the front componets in my 08 jku (no infinity) and i love the polk dxi 6500 (which i have in another vehicle) it looks like a few of you were able flush mount polk 1" tweeters in the tombstones. but after a few mesurements it sure looks close . any pictures out there to ease my mind? any advise if you were able to squeeze them in? thanks

If the flush mount is a bit bigger, then simply trim the stock tweeter pod. Trim it so that the flush mount fits inside snuggly, without requiring screws, glue, or whatever to hold it together.

I cut out the grill of the original tombstone and squeezed them through until they look almost factory. It requires some patience and a lot of trimming but the outcome is worth it. I used a two part super glue to hold the tweeter in place and I am very happy with the sound! Beats the hell outta the factory junk any day!

I have the Polk DXi6501 component speakers and need help from you guys with detailed installation instructions for the tweeters and crossovers. Did you flush mount or surface mount the tweeters? Where did you mount the crossovers?

I have the same speakers in my 09. I trimmed off the flanges inside the tweeter housing, lined it with some of that bumpy shelf liner no slip stuff (black), then inserted the Polk tweeters inside. It provides a nice snug fit without having to drill/screw anything, keeps them from rattling, and looks totally stock to prying eyes. The crossovers I just strapped them to what I could find under the dash with a couple of Velcro straps, again cushioning them with the liner.

Is it better to surface mount or flush mount the Polks? If they are surface mounted, does the large tombstone hole need a back bracket, strap, or backer plate to screw into? What do you recommend?

It depends on the year of the jeep....My 2010 sahara had tombstones that were easily replaceable, so i flush mounted them. On my 2013 Sahara i surface mounted them because the the tombstones are part of one big piece of plastic on the dash. My Polks (db6501's) had an x shaped bracket that fit in the tombstone
