Default Help Selecting New Audio System in JK

New to the forums here, and needed some help on a new audio system. I plan on replacing the headunit, dash and rollbar speakers, amplifier under dash, new subwoofer in back, and an amp to go with the subwoofer in the back. I have a 2008 JKU with the Infinity System.

Headunit- Pioneer AVH-P2300DVD http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130AVHP...ch=pioneer+dvd I like the dvd headunits and found this one was best for my budget. What are the PAC wires? Crutchfield suggest some PAC adapter but I was confused on that.

Subwoofer and enclosure- JL Audio 10" 10w3v3 4 ohms with the Select Increments Stealth Pod. It hooks on to the back tailgate if anyone hasn't seen this I'll add the link. http://www.selectincrements.com/stealthpod.html It's the only enclosure I've found that isn't too expensive but If anyone has other suggestions for an enclosure please post.

Speakers- Polk DB651s in dash and roll bar.

Amplifiers- I need help on an amplifier for the 4ohms JL 10". I think it puts out around 500w at 4ohms. Also would like to fit at one in the stock location to power the full range speakers in the dash and roll bar.

Any help with suggestions or other product suggestion would be greatly appreciated! I'm also wondering if I could put the sub amplifer in the rear storage spot in the back? Has anyone tried this, or have other spots to put an amp?

I'm doins some research on an audio install too. Have you checked out JVC KW-AVX740. I saw it on Crutchfield, it's a double din and has a detachable face which I like for the security aspect alone. I haven't read any reviews on it yet, but it may be worth checking out.
Good luck, I'll be following this to see what direction you go.

Funny you said something about this one, a buddy of mine actually had this exact same headunit in his JK. He ended up returning it and getting a new headunit. I think it was because his JK is always topless and he would get a bad glare from the sun on to his screen. All I remember was that it was a sick headunit so I'm still confused why he returned it so quickly

Interesting, I would think all headunits would have the same issue with sun glare when running topless. But I have no experience in that dept yet. But the fact that the unit has a detachable face is pretty awesome.
If you think about it, maybe you can bug him for his opinion on it.

I have the Kenwood DNX 9260BT which is the UK version of the DNX 9960. Removable faceplate, front and rear cams, iPod link, Garmin sat nav and DVD on the go all you need to do is ground a wire to get the DVD to work on the go. Faceplate tilts back so might avoid the sun.

I installed the JVC KW-AVX830 and replaced the front and rear speakers with Kicker 77KICK10. The mid-tones sound great, but I still need to add a sub and replace the tweeters to get a nice full sound. My system sounds way better than the base non-infinity system I started with. I have also heard the mygig with infinity factory system, my sounds better than those too. So, I am pretty happy with the sound output at nearly half the cost of the mygig option.

That being said, the glare on the JVC can be pretty bad. I have not had a chance to take the top off since I installed it, but I imagine it is not going to be pleasant. I also really miss the volume knob.

I don't know if iPhone integration is important to you but it was for me. I use MotionX GPS Drive on my iPhone4 for navigation and it outputs to the JVC. Some of the new Kenwood and Pioneer head units have app support that allows you to use Pandora from the head unit.

Hope this helps.

The PAC or Metra adapters convert the factory connections to the connector used by your new headunit/speakers. The head unit will come with a wiring harness pigtail. You will need to solder the adapter harness and the aftermarket harness together. It's actually a lot easier than it looks or sounds. It just takes a some time.

That is a very cool feature.

Any idea what would make the glare on the JVC any different than any other aftermarket unit?

Looks good. I've always liked Kenwood, doesn't look like the DNX 9960 has the removable face plate unfortunately.

. I have the older version of this in my 2008 toyota tundra and love it, good screen but mine doesn't work with itouch/iphone that is the only bad thing and the equalizer is top notch, you can all the parameters of your sound system really well
