Head Unit (output)

Head Unit (output)
I'm examining my options with upgrading my audio system, and I've run into some questions I'd appreciate being answered.
For background, I'm running the stock head unit (and speakers), from the "non-Infinity" system (IE, I didn't get the sub with my Jeep).
So: (1) the factory speakers are at 2ohm, correct? (2) What is the maximum output (in watts) that the head unit outputs per channel (IE, to each speaker)?
I'd like to keep the factory head unit... but replace the speakers and run a small sub. Gonna need an amp to do this, but the head unit doesn't offer preamp outputs; so I'm left with likely splitting into the output signal for one of the speakers, running it into a LOC, and then to an amp; voila! I just want to make sure the LOC I get is rated for a higher power than the factory head unit can output to the speakers.
Thanks!!

all i did to my TJ is put in a sirius tuner...
my 1995 tahoe is the one with the 'system'
my jeep's needed to be off road tough, and not take up any space...

If you dont mind spending a little more money than the standard LOC, there are several really slick options out there that allow you to use the factory head unit, and add aftermarket amps and speakers, but also have some crossover/EQ/Aux input options. Rockford 360, Alpine makes one.....cant think of the model now....JL CleanSweep, Phoenix Gold SLD44 (pretty much a high end LOC)....Get something like this, plug it into an amp of your choice, and power the new speakers and sub with the amp. A smaller 5-channel amp would be plenty of power, and be relatively easy to install...

i installed an aftermarket head unit on friday... didnt like the look, so i put the factory head unit back in. i think im going to run the clean sweep, but i need to purchase a few things prior to installing the clean sweep.
