Default hardtop wiring harness

Hello! I bought an '08 Wrangler X back in August. It came with a soft top. The same day I got the Jeep I ordered a hardtop from Chrysler. It took almost 10 weeks but it finally arrived. Installed last weekend but I found that the actual installation was a little different from the instruction sheet. Maybe due to instructions being for an '07? Today I put in the harness & ran into a couple problems. On connector "E", where the blue/white wire is supposed to go there's already a blue/white wire. Do I remove that one & install the new one? Same problem where the brown/green wire's supposed to go. Remove other one? Or are the instructions wrong? Also, in the baack of the instruction booklet it says that the Jeep's VIN is to "be updated with the sales code of the added accessory in order to enable system functionality." Does this mean I still have to pay for the dealer to do work on it? Anyone else out there installed your own wiring harness & can offer tips?? Thanks

I dont know about the wires I had mine installed at the dealer ($220.00) but the computer needs to have the correct codes downloaded into it by the dealer for the defrost and wiper to work.

I think this flash also changes fuel economy some to compensate for the heavier hard top.

I installed the OEM harness when I purchased a used hard top. My wiper works but the defrost doesn't. I didn't know if I needed a relay or a flash... thanks for your post.

Using a LARGE magnifying glass I was able to read the really small numbers on the module. I was trying to put them in the right spots after all. I cut the wires that were in the module & connected the wires from the harness. Same as you, I found that the wiper & washer work, but the rear window heater doesn't .......yet. I'm still working on getting info about whether I'm going to have to pony up & pay the dealership to "flash" the onboard computer to get the heater to work right.

You Have to remove the original wire in the cavity with a pick and then insert the new wire that comes with the harness.
The dealer will have to reflash the computer to activate the Defroster but the wiper/Washer will work without the reflash.
It took me 3.5 hours to complete the install

Default Please help

I just installed the hardtop wiring kit and for some reason jeep won't start and all the dash lights are on. I have been trying everything but to no avail. Its getting late on Saturday night and no Jeep Stealerships are open on Sunday. Does anyone have some more detailed pics of the wiring they did? If someone could PM me with their cell so I caould call and they could walk me through it that would be awesome. Or if someone is near the Turning Stone Casino in Vernon New York and can spare a few minutes I have cold beer and lunch would be on me if you could help me get my jeep back on the road.

Thanks,
Mike
