Thanks Rob,

That confirms what I thought, just too lazy to do the math.
Why can't they just measure in the same unit
or include both?

I'll try to score the adapter and let ya know if it flys.

Default Eureka!

I copied Rubicon Martin and got a "Stereo Adapter"
from my Verizon store.

It has a 2.5mm male plug for my cell phone's
headphone jack. The other end has a microphone
and a female 3.5 mm jack. I plugged a 3.5 x 3.5 mm
between it and my aux port. Wallah.
Voice quality through the stereo is great.
Only problem for me is that my phone is evidently only
putting out mono sound. Only the right channel speakers
are live. My test subjects said that they don't hear their
own voice(via the speakers through the mic)
to clearly, so it's ok with them.

Total cost was around 17 bucks. 13 for the stereo
adapter and 4 for the 3.5 mm cable.

This will definitely work around town.
Highway wind noise may be pushing it though.
Thanks Rubi Martin.

Would someone kindly show pictures of this little setup? I think I know what you've done, but would like to see it. Much appreciated.

I tried doing this little trick with my cell phone but unfortunately when I plug into it, I get the speaker sound out into the Jeep but it (the cell phone) expects that what I'm plugging into it also has a microphone.... thereby disabling the cell phone's built-in microphone and leaving me screwed!

Cell is a Motorola A840 w/ headphone / mic jack on top of the flip.

I installed a Parrot kit in my wifes truck. They are a French company and the instructions were not even close to accurate. I eventually found a diagram of the wires and was able to make it work. I really liked it, but my wife got complaints all the time about people not being able to understand her when she was speaking so we eventually just turned the BlueTooth off on her phone. Also, our young'ns are usually with her and the back-ground noise was pretty annoying...

However, knowing what I know now, I would go for replacing my factory head unit with an aftermarket receiver with BlueTooth built in. And I actually put a Sony unit in my car about 6 months ago (it was the only one on the market with bt built in and the microphone built in to the receiver) but the iPod adapter was crap (didn't retain playlist position upon turning the key off, so you had to always setup your music each time you started the car) so I pulled it out the very next weekend. I don't listen to the radio anymore, so the iPod thing was unacceptable to me.

If you are interested, I will make you a hell of a deal on that sony unit with iPod cable. But if you love your iPod, then pass that unit up and all Sonys I guess since they will use the same adapter. I was on Crutchfield looking for speakers for my new JK and noticed there were several more choices out there now.

Good Luck!
