I have mine in the trunk under the Sub box that I had built, it sits about 4in off the ground so the sub fits nicely under it and you dont even know its there. You said that you are keeping the factory stereo so I m guessing a subbox isnt in your future. My opinion is you can put it in any of the above mentioned places and then put a piece of matching carpet over it so it blends in better. A local stereo shop should have a piece of carpet that will match! I replaced my entire system and tried to make it look as inconspicuous as possible since I like to keep the doors off. Here are some pics of my sub box (amp is under it).

I have had three stereo systems stolen, all you can do is try to hide your stuff as best you can but if they want it its theirs! I had an alarm on every car it never seems to help just maybe slow them down.

I'd be interested to know as well. There are a lot of extraneous factors that may be causing that, from too small power/ground wire, poor ground, etc.

Well someone wanted to see a pic earlier of my setup, which I claimed to be safer to water crossings, and naturally no more than 1 hour ago a HUGE storm came through with sideways rain and soaked everything....So currently its drying out in my shop

I've got one mounted under each front seat. Nothing to fancy, gotta clean it up and re-mount but all in all a good location.

Go under the passenger seat. Keeps the rear seat capable of folding and gives some decent air to the amp....AND hides the amp!

Is there not a spot inside the dash under the steering column to mount an amp? Thats where the stock infinity amp is, at least for 07-10s. It where i mounted my PDX5 as well...
